Introduction

There are various settings to configure on the product to let it to automatically receive faxes.

Setting the product to receive faxes automatically

These models have a dedicated auto answer button which can be pressed and held until the light comes on. The default method of the product receiving faxes is the Auto Answer setting.
NOTE:Make sure to connect a phone line to the phone jack on the back of the product, and check that the phone line is active and has a dial tone. Make sure to connect one end of the power cord to the product and the other end to an electrical socket or surge protector.
  1. On the product control panel, press Setup.
  2. Press Basic Fax Setup and then press Auto Answer. The Auto Answer light comes on indicating that the device now answers fax calls automatically.

Setting the number of rings before answering

After Auto Answer is turned on, specify the number of rings on the line before the fax device answers to receive a fax. Follow these steps to set the Rings to Answer feature on the product.
NOTE:The Rings to Answer setting is important if an answering machine is on the same phone line as the product. Set the number of rings for the device greater than the number of rings for the answering machine.
  1. On the product control panel, press Setup.
  2. Select Basic Fax Setup, and then select Rings to Answer.
  3. To set the number of rings, do one of the following.
    • Use the keypad to type the number of rings.
    • Press the left or right arrow button to change the number of rings.
  4. Press OK.

Changing the answer ring pattern for distinctive ring

Many phone companies offer a distinctive ring feature that allows several phone numbers on one phone line. Each number has a different ring pattern. The device can be set to answer incoming calls that have a specific ring pattern. Have the telephone company assign one ring pattern to voice calls and another ring pattern to fax calls.

NOTE:Check with the local service provider to determine the availability of this feature. If the distinctive ring service is not available or unwanted, use the default ring pattern, which is All Rings.
  1. On the product control panel, press Setup.
  2. Select Advanced Fax Setup, and then select Distinctive Ring.
  3. Press the right arrow button to select an option, and then press OK.
When the phone rings with the ring pattern assigned to your fax line, the device answers the call and receives the fax.
