Alignment Page Does Not Print

Issue

After you install new cartridges, the product does not print an alignment page as expected.

Solution one: Make sure the front access door is not open

Check the front access door. If the door is open, close it.

  • If the alignment page prints automatically, continue to "Solution five, Step two" in this document to complete the alignment process.
  • If the alignment page does not print, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Check for carriage obstructions

  1. With the product turned on, open the front access door. The carriage moves to the center of the product.

  2. Inspect the area around the carriage for any obstructions, including packing material. Remove any obstructions.
  3. Close the front access door.
    • If the alignment page prints automatically, continue to "Solution five, Step two" in this document to complete the alignment process.
    • If the alignment page does not print, continue to the next solution.

Solution three: Remove and reinsert the cartridges

  1. Make sure the product is on.
  2. Open the front access door.

  3. Wait for the carriage to move to the center of the product.
  4. Press down on one of the cartridges to release it, and then pull it out from its slot.
  5. Hold the cartridge by its sides.

  6. Reinsert the cartridge into its designated slot. The black parallelogram icon () designates the slot for the black cartridge, and the magenta half circle icon () designates the slot for the color cartridge.

  7. Press the cartridge in to snap it into place.

  8. Repeat these steps to remove and then reinsert the other cartridge.
  9. Close the front access door.

    • If the alignment page prints automatically, continue to "Solution five, Step two" in this document to complete the alignment process.
    • If the alignment page does not print, continue to the next solution.

Solution four: Reset the All-in-One

Follow these steps to perform a hard reset.
  1. Without turning off the product, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
    • If the alignment page prints automatically, continue to "Solution five, Step two" in this document to complete the alignment process.
    • If the alignment page does not print, continue to the next solution.

Solution five: Realign the cartridges

Follow these steps to print an alignment page and realign the cartridges.

Step one: Print an alignment page

  1. Make sure you have plain paper loaded in the product.
  2. Open HP Solution Center:
    • Windows XP: Click Start, click All Programs, click HP, and then click HP Solution Center.
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, and then click HP Solution Center.
    HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
  3. In HP Solution Center, click Settings ().
  4. In the Print Settings section, click Printer Toolbox. The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
  5. Click Align the Print Cartridges ().
  6. Click Print Page. The product prints an alignment page.

Step two: Scan the alignment sheet

  1. Lift the product lid.

  2. Place the alignment sheet on with the printed-side down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment sheet.

  3. Lower the product lid.

  4. Press the Scan button () to scan the alignment sheet.

  5. Wait while the product scans the alignment sheet and completes the alignment process.
