Introduction

This document has information on how to identify the HP DVD Writer DVD series models. The DVD series includes internal IDE, and external USB 2.0 High Speed / IEEE 1394 models. The drives in this document are listed by connection type, beginning with the internal IDE models.

This drive has an IDE interface, allowing it to be attached to an available channel on the computer motherboard.

The tray mechanism incorporates a dust seal so that dust does not enter from the front bezel.
This drive features a swoop design on the faceplate, starting at the volume control (3) and ending in the upper right corner.

The drive has a general status LED (4). On the right side of the LED are a Compact Disc Recordable icon (5), a Compact Disc ReWritable icon (6) and a DVD+ReWritable icon (7).

Above the volume control (3) is the emergency eject hole (2).

This drive has a different design than the previous models. The swoop design has been replaced by a black carbonite bezel.

From right to left, there is the Eject button (4) with the DVD+R/+RW icon (5) above, the General Status LED (3), and the Emergency eject hole (1) with the Compact Disc ReWritable High Speed icon (2) above.

The "hp dvd writer dvd400i" label is located at the lower left side.

The LED (4) is in the left half of the drive, between the volume control (3), and the Compact Disc Recordable icon (5).

The emergency eject hole (2) is just above the volume control.

These drives have a USB 2.0 High Speed interface that may be connected to a supported USB 2.0 High Speed controller.
These drives are silver grey with an integrated curved tray door. The "hp dvd movie writer dc3000", or "hp dvd movie writer dc4000", or "hp dvd movie writer dc5000" label is on the left side of faceplate.

All LEDs, buttons and connections are installed in the right side of the drive, starting with the Eject button (4), and following with the Drive activity light (3), the Camcorder activity light (2), and the Transfer button (10).

The S-Video in port (5), Composite video in port (6), Left audio in port (7), right audio in port (8), and USB 2.0 port (9) are located in the lower right side of the drive.
