How to Print with the Two-sided Printing Accessory

Introduction

The two-sided printing accessory provides automatic two-sided printing capability. If there is no two-sided printing accessory, two-sided documents can still be printed using the manual method.
The two-sided printing accessory is compatible with the following HP Deskjet series printers:

Installing the two-sided printing accessory

Follow the steps below to install the two-sided printing accessory:
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Push the two latch handles on the printer rear access door toward each other, then remove the door.

  3. Insert the two-sided printing accessory in the back of the printer until both sides snap into place.

  4. Turn the printer on.

Configuring the Windows system to automatically print two-sided documents

There are different methods of enabling two-sided printing accessory:
  1. During printing installation
    Two-sided printing is automatically enabled during printer installation if YES is selected when the question Do you have a two-sided printing module? displays during the installation process.
  2. Three-Tab Toolbox
    1. Right-click the Taskbar Printer icon.
    2. Select the Services table.
    3. Click the Service this device button.
    4. Select the Configuration tab.
    5. Click the Automatic Two-Sided Printing Module box.
    6. Click Apply .

Printing using the two-sided printing accessory

HP Deskjet 5100, 5600 and 5850 series printers

  1. Replace the rear access door with the two-sided printing module.
  2. Open the file to be printed.
  3. Click File , then Print .
  4. Open the Properties dialog box.
  5. Select the Finishing tab.
  6. Click Print on Both Sides. .

  7. Deselect the Automatic checkbox, then do one of the following:
    • For book binding, verify Flip Pages Up is not selected.
    • For tablet binding, select Flip Pages Up .
  8. Change any other desired print settings, then click OK to print the document. The printer will pause before printing the second side of the document to allow the first side time to dry.

HP Deskjet 6500, 6620 and 6840 series printers

  1. Replace the rear access door with the two-sided printing module.
  2. Open the file to be printed, then open the printer Properties dialog box.
  3. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab, and then click Two-sided, duplex, printing (see Figure below).

  4. In the Print on both sides drop-down list, click Automatically (see Figure above).
  5. Select any other print settings wanted, and then click OK .
  6. The printer will print the first side of the page, then, the printer pauses while the ink dries. When the ink is dry, the paper is pulled back into the duplexer and the reverse side of the page is printed.
    NOTE:Do not remove the paper from the printer until both sides of the page have been printed.
