If this does not resolve the issue, go to the next step.

Step two: Manually move the carriage

  1. Press Power to turn off the printer.
  2. Open the printer cover and observe the print cartridges and carriage. If the carriage is on the right side of the printer, check for lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.

Then move the carriage back to the left side to make sure the print cartridges are stored properly.
  4. Turn the printer on. Be patient as this might take a few moments. You might need to resend the print job.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue and the carriage still will not move, go to the next step.

Step three: Check the paper path

  1. Disconnect the power from the printer by unplugging the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Look inside the printer for obstructions along the carriage path, such as lint or paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.
  3. Remove the rear access door on the back of the printer and check for paper pieces. Remove any obstructions.

Cause

If the wiper shift plate is positioned incorrectly, it may prevent the carriage from moving back and forth. Incorrectly installed print cartridges can also prevent the carriage from moving.
