Opening the PC Case in HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7000/8000 Series Desktop PCs

This document only pertains to HP desktop PCs with the following PC case:

Before you begin

  • Turn off the PC, disconnect all cables, and transfer the PC to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the PC.
WARNING:The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
CAUTION:This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the right side panel

To access most components, remove the right side panel.
WARNING:Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the PC, detach the two thumb screws that connect the right side panel to the rear of the PC case.
Step 2. Lay the PC case on its side, grasp the handle on the panel, and pull toward the back of the PC.
Step 3. Then lift the panel off the PC case.

Removing the left side panel

To access certain system components, the left side panel may need to be removed.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the PC, remove the two screws that connect the left side panel to the rear of the PC case.
Step 2. Lay the PC case on its side and loosen the panel by using a flat head screwdriver.
Step 3. Lift the panel off the PC case.

Replacing the left side panel

The left side panel has six interior tabs.
These fit into corresponding slots on the PC case.
There are also five tabs on the front leading edge...
that fit into a lip on the PC case.
Step 1. To attach the panel, align the tabs on the panel the into the slots in the PC case.
Step 2. From the back of the PC, push the panel forward until the front leading edge is secured.
Step 3. Remember to reattach the two screws that connect the rear of the panel to the PC case.

Replacing the right side panel

The right side panel has six interior tabs.
These fit into corresponding slots on the PC case.
There are also five tabs on the front leading edge...
that fit into a lip on the PC case.
Step 1. Gently lay the PC on its side.
Step 2. Align the tabs on the panel into the slots in the PC case.
Step 3. From the back of the PC, push the panel forward until the front leading edge is secured.
Step 4. Remember to resecure the two thumb screws to secure the panel to the PC Case.
