Opening the PC Case in Compaq Presario SR1000 and SR2000 Series PCs

  • PrintPrint
This document only pertains to Compaq desktop PCs with the following PC cases:

Before you begin

  • Turn off the PC, disconnect all cables and transfer the PC to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the PC.
WARNING:The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
CAUTION:This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the right side panel

To access most components, remove the right side panel.
WARNING:Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the PC, detach the thumb screw that connects the right side panel to the rear of the PC case.
Step 2. Lay the PC case on its side, grasp the handle on the panel, and pull toward the back of the PC.
Step 3. Then lift the panel off the PC case.

Replacing the right side panel

The right side panel has four hooks on the top and bottom edges and six interior tabs on the front edge.

The eight hooks fit into corresponding slots on the PC case and the six tabs on the front leading edge fit into a lip on the PC case.
Step 1. Gently lay the PC on its side and align the tabs on the panel into the slots in the PC case.
Step 2. From the back of the PC, push the panel forward until the front leading edge is secured.
Step 3. Resecure the thumb screw to secure the panel to the PC case.
