This document pertains to HP Plasma and LCD TVs.
This document may help when programming a universal remote control for operation of a HP Plasma or LCD television.

Information about using a remote control that did not come with the TV

Your HP TV may have come with a universal TV remote control that controls most satellite, cable, DVD, VCR, and many other home entertainment products. The User Guide for your TV explains how to set-up your HP remote control and what brands it can control. Many HP TVs contain TV receiver commands that will probably not work with other universal remote controls, especially those remote controls made around the same time or before the TV was released.
Learning remote controls can be used to operate HP TVs once they have been set up accordingly. Learning remote controls can be purchased at retail stores or on-line. The price varies depending on functionality and features.
NOTE:HP cannot help setup a remote control that did not come with an HP TV. HP does not provide help on how to program your remote control with these codes.

Programming a universal remote for basic operation

If HP is not listed in the supported brand codes for the universal remote, try using one of the Philips TV codes that is available. The remote control for your HP TV may transmit Philips-licensed remote control codes. After programming your universal remote control with a Philips TV code, it can operate your HP TV functions for volume, mute, power, and input source.

Programming discrete codes

This information is provided as is. Not all codes are applicable to all TV models or accepted by all remote controls. In case of difficulty programming your universal remote, contact support for the manufacturer of your remote control.
These discrete infrared (IR) universal remote control codes are for programming a universal remote control buttons to operate HP televisions. The codes may not operate all HP TV models, or may not provide full button function of the original remote control. Your universal remote control may not accept or support these discrete codes.
Discrete codes are not the same as the 3-, 4-, 5-, or 6-digit manufacturer codes typically used to program universal remote controls. Discrete IR codes are usually used by certified TV installers to program certain universal remote controls for specific button functions.
NOTE:This information is provided as is. Not all codes are applicable to all TV models or accepted by all remote controls. In case of difficulty programming your universal remote, contact support for the manufacturer of your remote control.
When programming your universal remote, you may be able to enter the RC-6A customer code, the system code, and the function code. HP TVs use the RC-6A format.
For example, from Entertainment Group 1 table, to program the code for AV1, you might enter:
  • Customer code: 32785
  • System code: 2
  • Function code: 13
