'Top Cover Open' Message Displays on the Computer
If top cover of the printer is open or the door hinge on the right hand side is broken, the following error message appears on the computer when trying to print:
Top Cover Open. The device cannot print because the top cover is open. Close the top cover and press continue, or cancel the printing.
Follow the steps below until the issue is resolved.
Close the door properly as shown in the figure below. Click Continue to print the document.
If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next solution.
Open the side access door on the right hand side of the printer as shown in the figure below. Pull the door from the bottom and then lift the door up.
Check if the door hinge is broken or if the sensor is stuck. The sensor is shown in the figure below. If the door is closed the sensor should go up.
NOTE:If the door hinge or sensor is broken, service your product.
The side door is closed by first putting the top latches (A) on the top of printer and then pushing the side door inside so that latches (B) go inside and get locked as shown below.
Click Continue to print the document. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next solution.
These steps apply to all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
If you have completed all the preceding steps and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.
