HP Photosmart C6200 All-in-One Printer Series- Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)

Introduction

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Remove all tape and cardboard from the All-in-One
  • Check the contents of the box
  • Attach the control panel faceplate
  • Connect the power cord and adapter
  • Turn on power
  • Load plain white paper
  • Load photo paper
  • Select the language and country/region
  • Install the cartridges
  • Align the cartridges

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the printer software.

Step one: Remove all tape and cardboard from the All-in-One

  1. Remove all tape and protective film from the product.

  2. Lift the color graphics display and remove the protective film.

Step two: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step three: Attach the control panel faceplate

Use the following steps to attach the control panel faceplate, if the faceplate is not already attached:
  1. Align the control panel faceplate over the buttons on the product control panel.

  2. Press down firmly on all edges of the faceplate until it snaps into place. Make sure that the corners and the bottom edge are attached and that the buttons are accessible.

Step four: Connect the power cord and adapter

  1. Connect the power cord to the power adapter.
  2. Connect the power adapter to the power connection on the back of the product.
  3. Connect the power cord to a wall outlet or surge protector.

Step five: Turn on power

Press the Power button () button to turn on the product.

Step six: Load plain white paper

  1. Raise the output tray and pull out the input tray.
  2. Slide the paper-length guide to its outermost position.
  3. Insert the stack of plain paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.

  4. Slide the paper-width and paper-length guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.

    NOTE:Do not overload the input tray. Make sure that the stack of paper fits within the input tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
  5. Push the input tray into the product and lower the output tray.

Step seven: Load photo paper

  1. Lift the output tray and extend the photo tray.

  2. Slide the paper-width and paper-length guides to their outermost positions.
  3. Load up to 20 sheets of photo paper into the photo tray with the side to be printed on facing down. Make sure that the stack of photo paper fits loosely under the tab on the paper-length guide.

    NOTE:If using tabbed paper, insert the paper so that the tab is closer to you.
  4. Adjust the paper-width and paper-length guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.
  5. Push in the photo tray.
  6. Lower the output tray.

Step eight: Select the language and country/region

The language setting determines the language used for messages that appear on the control panel display. Change this setting, if necessary, by using the following steps.
  1. Press the Setup button (). The Setup menu opens.
  2. Use the down arrow button () to highlight Preferences, and then press OK.
  3. Use the down arrow button () to highlight Set Language, and then press OK.
  4. Press the down arrow button () to scroll through the languages. When the appropriate language appears, press OK.
  5. When prompted to confirm the language, press the down arrow button () to highlight Yes or No, and then press OK.
The country/region setting determines the default paper sizes and layouts for printing. Change these settings when necessary by using the following steps.
  1. Press the Setup button (). The Setup menu appears.
  2. Use the down arrow button () to highlight Preferences, and then press OK.
  3. Use the down arrow button () to highlight Set Country/Region, and then press OK.
  4. Use the down arrow button () to scroll through the countries/regions. When the appropriate country/region appears, press OK.
  5. When prompted to confirm the country/region, press the down arrow button () to highlight Yes or No, and then press OK.

Step nine: Install the cartridges

Follow these instructions to install the cartridges.
NOTE:When installing the cartridges for the first time, be sure to use only the cartridges that came with the product. The ink in these cartridges is specially formulated to mix with the ink in the printhead assembly at the time of setup.
  1. Make sure that the product is on.
  2. Open the access door by lifting it upward until the door locks into place.

  3. Squeeze the bottom of the latch below the slot of the cartridge to be installed, and then lift the latch.
    When installing the black cartridge, lift the latch on the far left.
    Lift the appropriate latch in the central area to install each of the five color cartridges: yellow, light cyan (blue), cyan, light magenta (pink), and magenta.

  4. If you need to remove an old cartridge, pull the cartridge out of its slot to remove it.

  5. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging, and then hold it by the handle and push it into the empty slot. Match the color and pattern of the cartridges to the color and pattern on the carriage.

  6. Close the latch and make sure that it is secure.

  7. Close the access door.

Step ten: Align the cartridges

  1. Make sure you have loaded paper, and then press OK to start the cartridge alignment process.
    If the alignment process does not start automatically, follow these steps:
    Press the Setup button (). The Setup menu appears.
    Use the down arrow button () to highlight Tools, and then press OK. The Tools menu appears.
    Use the down arrow button () to highlight Align Printer, and press OK.
  2. Wait a few minutes for the alignment process to complete and the alignment page to print.
  3. Press OK. The hardware setup is complete.
