Installing and Updating QuickPlay/DVD Play 3.x
QuickPlay and DVD Play software plays DVD movies or music CDs on your notebook. It comes pre-installed on some notebooks and is displayed as either QuickPlay or DVD Play depending on the computer model and hardware components. When it is configured as QuickPlay it has additional features such as the ability to connect to a webcam.
On computer models with a QuickPlay button on the keyboard, you can start the computer and the application by pressing the QuickPlay button. QuickPlay will be the first application started. The other start-up applications will continue to load while the DVD movie or music CD is already playing. Pop-up windows (such as Norton Anti-Virus and HP Total Care) will appear during the startup but can be minimized so that you can continue watching the DVD. DVD Play can be started after the computer is running in Windows.
Recognizing the different versions of QuickPlay/DVD Play
There are three different versions of QuickPlay/DVD Play. You should determine which version is designed for your computer and then verify which version is actually installed. If an incorrect version is installed, you should uninstall the old application and then install the correct version.

If a set of XP recovery discs for the XP operating system was created, they can be used to reinstall the application. Version 2.x requires a 1 GB windows partition on the hard drive.
If the PC shipped with the Vista operating system but was downgraded to the XP OS, you cannot use QuickPlay. You can use a third-party program to view your DVDs.

The Recovery Manager, which is installed on a separate hard drive partition, can be used to reinstall the application. It is also available for PCs that were shipped with the XP operating system but are certified by HP as Vista capable, and have been upgraded to Vista using the HP Vista Upgrade utility. Removing existing versions of programs before installing updated versions
To prevent software conflict problems, it is best to uninstall the old version of a program before attempting to install an updated version. This is especially helpful if the programs are designed for different operating systems. To do so, follow the steps below.
- Click Start , Control Panel , and then click Uninstall a program .
- Right-click the program and select Uninstall .
- If prompted, allow the PC to restart before attempting to install new software.
Options for finding QuickPlay
There are multiple ways to determine if QuickPlay 3.x for Windows Vista program or updates is available for your computer. The options are listed in the decision table below.

If no update is listed on the web page, download QuickPlay version 3.7 softpaq SP43325 from the HP web site.
Depending on the hardware configuration, the QuickPlay softpaq may install as DVD Play, and cannot access or display images from an internal webcam.
|QuickPlay or DVD Play was pre-installed, but the OS was changed from Vista to XP and there is no XP version on the product support web page.||The original program was designed for the Vista operating system (OS) and will not work on a computer with the XP OS. |
This configuration is not covered by the HP support policy and no softpaq is available for the XP OS.
You can search on the web for a third party webcam or media player that is designed for the changed OS.
Download and install the Vista QuickPlay softpaq from the web
For computers that are currently running Windows Vista, you may download and install the Vista QuickPlay softpaq from the web by following the directions below. Before you upgrade to the Vista QuickPlay softpaq, you should ensure that you have a stable version of QuickPlay installed.
- Before installing the Vista version of QuickPlay, be sure all of the Windows and HP updates are installed.
- Close all applications, connect the PC to the Internet, and go to the HP Drivers and Download page for your PC model.
- If prompted, select the desired country / region and language.
- When prompted, select the Download drivers and software option, enter the product number , and then press enter to start the search.
- When prompted, select the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system option to open the software and drivers web page.
- Select the HP QuickPlay Web Update entry, and review the on-screen instructions.
- Click Download only , and when prompted, save the file to a convenient location; such as your desktop.
- Double-click the downloaded file to launch the installer. Read the End user License Agreement , and select Next to begin the installation.NOTE: If you are not logged on to an account with administrator privileges, you will be prompted for permission to complete the installation. After the installation is complete, press the QuickPlay icon on the display, or press the QuickPlay button above the keyboard (on selected models) to open the QuickPlay application.

Reinstall the Vista version of QuickPlay with HP Backup and Recovery Manager
For computers that are currently running Windows Vista, use HP Backup and Recovery Manager to reinstall the original Vista version of QuickPlay by following the steps below. If you created your own recovery discs, you can use them to reinstall the original program.
- Close all applications and connect the PC to the AC power adapter.
- Click Start , enter recovery manager in the search field and select HP Recovery Manager in the listing.
- Click Advanced options .
- Click Software program re-installation .
- Click Next to get to the Select a program to reinstall window.
- Highlight HP QuickPlay / DVD Play from the list of applications, and then click Next .
- Once QuickPlay is installed, click Finish to exit HP Backup and Recovery Manager.
Resolve issues by updating to latest version
If you experience playback errors, such as video or sound problems, you may need to update your software. To update DVD Play, if there is an update available, you can click the Web Patch icon and follow the instructions. For QuickPlay, use the update function in the QuickPlay application by following the steps below.
- Click Start , type quickplay in the search field, and then select QuickPlay from the list.
- In QuickPlay, double-click the Update icon. The Updates and Enhancements window opens.
- Double-click Get the latest QuickPlay updates .
- Select Download now! and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now that you have downloaded and installed the updates, your computer has the latest version of QuickPlay available. Try using QuickPlay again to confirm that your playback issues have been resolved.
You can upgrade to a known good version of QuickPlay 3.x by downloading a Cyberlink QuickPlay softpaq sp35813.exe from the HP web site. If QuickPlay is install as DVD Play , the computer hardware configuration cannot support all the QuickPlay functions.
When the program is installed, you can install any updates from the Cyberlink QuickPlay web site using the Help option inside the application.
