'Alignment page not detected' or 'Alignment failed' Message Displays on the All-in-One

  • PrintPrint

Issue

'Alignment page not detected ' or 'Alignment failed ' displays on the product control panel when aligning the print cartridges.

Solution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Step one: Check the paper

Make sure clean, white paper is loaded in the input tray.
NOTE:Print cartridge alignment fails when colored paper is loaded in the input tray.

Step two: Check for defects on the alignment page

If the alignment page contains defects, the product cannot align the cartridges correctly when scanning the page.
Figure 1: Alignment page without defects
The patterns on the alignment page should be printed clearly and extend across the page. If parts of the pattern are missing, one or both of the print cartridges might be low on ink or not working correctly.
  • If the alignment page contains defects , proceed to the next step.
  • If the alignment page contains no defects , proceed to Step five: Realign the print cartridges

Step three: Check ink levels and replace low or empty cartridges

NOTE:Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low-ink levels, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.
  1. Open HP Solution Center:
    • Windows XP: Click Start , click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .

  3. Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
  4. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab.
The ink level indicator graphic displays on the computer.
  • If any of the cartridges are low on ink , replace them, and then proceed to Step five: Realign the print cartridges.
  • If none of the cartridges are low on ink and the alignment sheet contains defects, proceed to the next step to clean the print cartridges.
