Uninstalling the Printer Software

This document is for all printers that use the HP Solution Center printer software.
Select your operating system from the following options, and then review instructions to uninstall the software.
Important: If your printer connects to the computer with a USB or Ethernet cable, disconnect the cable from the printer now.
The HP Uninstaller is available only if you have the full version of the software installed on your computer. If your software version is 'basic driver only,' continue to the next method.
  1. Click Start , and then click All Programs .
  2. Click the HP or Hewlett Packard folder, and then click the folder for your printer. The folder is labeled according to the printer series number.
    If there is no folder for your printer, continue to the next method to uninstall the software.
  3. Click Uninstall or Uninstall Software , then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  4. If this method did not uninstall all printers associated with your device, go to the next method and uninstall through Add or Remove Programs .
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start , and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs . A list of programs installed on your computer opens.
  3. Click the HP item you want to uninstall, and then click Change/Remove .
    NOTE:You can uninstall only one item at a time.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software removal.
  5. Turn off the printer, disconnect the printer from the power source, and then restart the computer.
Important: If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable or Ethernet cable, disconnect the cable from the HP printer now.
The HP Uninstaller is available only if you have the full version of the software installed on your computer. If your software version is 'basic driver only,' proceed to the next method in this document.
  1. Click Start ( ), and then click All Programs .
  2. Click the HP or Hewlett Packard folder, and then click the folder for your printer. The folder is labeled according to the printer series number.
    If there is no folder for your printer, continue to the next method to uninstall the software.
  3. Click Uninstall or Uninstall Software , and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  4. If this method did not uninstall all printers associated with your device, go to the next method and uninstall through the Windows Control Panel.
Follow these steps to uninstall the software through the Windows Control Panel.
  1. Click Start ( ), and then click Control Panel .
  2. Access the program list:
    • Control Panel Home view: Under Programs , click Uninstall a Program .
    • Classic view: Double-click Programs and Features .
  3. In the list of installed programs, find your HP printer driver. The driver might not be listed by printer name. Look for the printer type, such as Photosmart, Officejet, PSC, or Deskjet. For example:
    • HP Deskjet product Driver Software 9.0
    • HP Photosmart All-in-One Software 8.0
    If your printer does not display in the list of installed programs, continue to the next method to uninstall the software.
  4. Click the driver, and then click Uninstall . When the process completes, select the option to restart your computer later.
Important: If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable or Ethernet cable, disconnect the cable from the HP printer now.
The HP Uninstaller is available only if you have the full version of the software installed on your computer. If your software version is 'basic driver only,' proceed to the next method in this document.
  1. If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable, unplug the USB cable from the HP printer.
  2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start ( ), and then type uninstall in the Search programs and files box.
  3. Click Uninstall a program . A list of programs installed on your computer opens.
  4. In the list of installed programs, click your HP printer and then click Uninstall . The HP Uninstaller opens.
    NOTE:If you do not see your printer in this list, the HP Uninstaller is not available for your printer. Try the next method in this document for removing the software.
  5. Select Uninstall all HP printers or Choose which HP printers . Then click Next .
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software removal.
    CAUTION:If you are asked to remove shared files, click No . Other programs that use these files might not work if you delete the files.
  7. Disconnect the printer from the power source, and then restart the computer.
  8. If this method did not uninstall all printers associated with your device, go to Method two: Uninstall through the Windows Control Panel .
Follow these steps to uninstall the printer software through the Windows Control Panel.
  1. Click Start ( ), click Control Panel , and then under "Programs," click Uninstall a program .
  2. Find your HP printer driver in the list of installed programs. If you do not see the printer name, look for the printer type, such as Photosmart, Officejet, PSC, or Deskjet. For example:
    • HP Photosmart C4600 All-in-One Driver software 13.0 Rel .5
    • HP Photosmart All-in-One Software 13.0
    If your printer does not display in the list of installed programs, continue to the next method to uninstall the software.
  3. Click the driver, click Uninstall/Change , and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Follow these steps to remove the print driver from your computer.
NOTE:If you are not using the latest version of Windows 8, the information in this document might not match. You can get the latest version from the Microsoft Store.

Step one: Uninstall the Basic Device Software

  1. Perform the following step for your connection type:
    • USB connection : If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the USB cable from the printer, and then disconnect the cable from the computer.
    • Network connection : If the printer is connected to the network through a wired (Ethernet) or wireless connection, disconnect the printer from the network.
      NOTE:If you plan to reinstall the printer software, leave the printer connected to the network.
  2. Right-click the Start button ( ) in the lower left corner of the screen, click Search , and then type Devices and Printers .
  3. Click Devices and Printers .
  4. Right-click the icon for your printer, and then click Remove Device . The computer uninstalls the printer software.

Step two: Uninstall other HP software

Remove any additional software specific to your HP printer through the Windows Uninstall a program feature. Follow these steps to uninstall the software.
Important : If you have multiple HP printers installed on your computer, some of the software components might be shared among them. Use caution if the uninstaller asks if you want to remove shared files. Other HP printers or software programs might not work correctly if you delete certain files.
  1. Right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, and then click or tap Programs and Features . The Programs and Features window opens with a list of installed programs.
    NOTE:If you do not see any HP software in the list, there is no further software to remove from your computer.
  2. In the list of programs, click or tap an HP software title, click or tap Uninstall , and then click or tap Yes . Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
  3. Repeat the preceding step to remove other HP software titles.
  4. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the HP printer, and then unplug the printer's power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Restart the computer.
Select a method to remove the print driver and software from a computer with Mac OS X v10.4 or Mac OS X v10.5.
Resetting the printing system is a quick and easy way to remove the printer software.
  1. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences .
  2. On the View menu, click Print & Fax .
  3. Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your printer in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .

  4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
  5. Type your user Name and Password .
  6. Click OK . The printing system resets.
  1. From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD , and then click Applications .
  2. Click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
  3. Double-click the HP Uninstaller , and then click Continue .
  4. Select the printer to uninstall, and then click Uninstall .
  5. When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password, and then click OK .
  6. From the Macintosh HD menu, click Users .
  7. Click the correct user name.
  8. Click Library , and then click Preferences .
  9. Click and hold the cursor on the first file that starts with "HP," and then drag the file to the Trash icon on the taskbar. Complete this step for each file that starts with "HP."
  10. Close out of Preferences .
  11. Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
    NOTE:By clicking OK , all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK .
Select a method to remove the print driver and other software from a computer with Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, or OS X v10.9.
Resetting the printing system is a quick and easy way to remove the printing software.
  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
  2. Click Print & Fax for Mac OS X v10.6, or Print & Scan for OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, or OS X v10.9.
  3. Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your printer in the list on the left side of the window, and then click Reset printing system .

  4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
  5. Type your user name and password in the Name and Password text fields.
  6. Click OK . The printing system resets.
Select an option to uninstall the printer software.
    1. From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD , and then click Applications .
    2. Click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
    3. Double-click the HP Uninstaller , and then click Continue .
    4. Select the printer to uninstall, and then click Uninstall .
    5. When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password, and then click OK .
    6. From the Macintosh HD menu, click Users .
    7. Click the correct user name.
    8. Click Library .
    9. Click Preferences .
    10. Click and hold the cursor on the first file that starts with "HP," and then drag the file to the Trash icon on the taskbar. Complete this step for each file that starts with "HP."
    11. Close out of Preferences .
    12. Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
      NOTE:By clicking OK , all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK .
    1. From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD icon.
    2. Double-click the Library folder.
    3. Double-click the Printers folder.
    4. Right-click the HP folder, and then select Move to Trash .
    5. When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK . Wait for authentication to complete.
    6. Double-click the PPDs folder.
    7. Double-click the Contents folder.
    8. Double-click the Resources folder.
    9. Locate your printer in the printer list, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash .
    10. When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK . Wait for authentication to complete.
    11. Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
      NOTE:By clicking OK , all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK .
    12. On the upper-left corner of the computer desktop, click the Apple menu icon ( ), and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
    13. Double-click Print & Fax for Mac OS X v10.6, or Print & Scan for OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, orOS X v10.9.
    14. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button ( ) to delete it.
