Resolving a 'Paper Mismatch' Error

Issue

A 'Paper Mismatch' error occurs when printing.
Follow the solutions in the order given. If a solution resolves the error message, there is no need to continue to the next solution.

Solution one: Make sure that the paper settings match the paper

  1. Open the software program you are printing from, and then open the document that you want to print.
  2. Click File, and then click Print.
  3. Make sure that your product is in the Name drop-down list box, and then click Properties.
  4. Select the Paper Size, which should match the media size you intend to print on.
  5. Select the Paper Type, which should match the media type you intend to print on.
  6. Click OK to apply the settings.
  7. Click Print or OK.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Align the printhead

Use this maintenance task to resolve a 'Paper Mismatch' error.
  1. On the control panel, touch the Right Arrow ().
  2. Touch the Setup icon (). The Setup Menu displays.
  3. Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Tools.
  4. Touch Align Printhead. The product aligns the printhead.
  5. After the alignment completes, try to print again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution three: Update the product firmware

Firmware is software that is embedded in the product hardware. There might be a newer version of the firmware that will resolve your issue. Choose the method to update to the most current firmware.
If the product connects to a network with internet access, you can update the firmware through the front panel. In most cases, the firmware will automatically update as necessary. In order for this to occur, you must enable web services.
Follow these steps to activate HP Web-connected printing services, and to update the firmware.
  1. On the product control panel, touch Apps, Web Services, or ePrint, depending on your product model.
  2. If prompted to enable Web services, touch Yes, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. If prompted to update the product, touch Yes, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  1. If the Welcome to HP Support page opens, follow these steps:
    1. Type your printer model number.
    2. Click Go.
      You might need to select your printer model number from a list of similar printer models.
  2. Select your operating system, and then click Next.
    A list of drivers and other downloads display.
  3. Scroll down the page, and then click Firmware.
  4. Click Download, and then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the firmware.
