How to Scan: From the Control Panel

Introduction

This document explains how to scan a picture or a document using the control panel on your HP product.
Before scanning, make sure that the computer is on and that the product software is installed. Also, make sure that you connect the HP product to the computer with a USB cable or through a wireless network connection.
Use the following steps to scan pictures or documents to the computer. First, select your connection type.
Click the plus sign () for more information.
Follow these steps to scan from the HP product to a computer over a network connection.

Step one: Activate the scan connection to the computer

Follow these steps to activate the scan connection between the HP product and the computer.
Mac users: This step is not necessary for Mac operating systems. Continue to the next step.
IMPORTANT: To send scans from your HP product to a computer over a wireless network, you must enable the Manage Scan to Computer connection from the HP software after the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode (the hard disc shuts down). The scan cannot complete if the Manage Scan to Computer connection is not enabled each time that the computer restarts, hibernates, or enters sleep mode.
  1. Press the Power button () to turn the product on.
  2. To open the HP software, either double-click the product icon () on your desktop, or select one of the following methods.
      Click Start (), click All Programs, click the HP folder, click the folder with the name of your product series, and then click your product.
      Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click the HP folder, click the folder with the name of your product series, and then click your product.
  3. Click Scanner Actions, and then click Manage Scan to Computer.
  4. Click Enable to activate the scan to computer option.

Step two: Place the item on the scanner glass

Follow these steps to place the item you are scanning on the scanner glass.
  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not already on.
  2. Open the scanner cover.

  3. Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guide on the right-front corner of the scanner glass.

  4. Close the scanner cover.

Step three: Scan from the control panel

Follow these steps to scan from the control panel.
  1. On the product control panel, touch the Scan icon (). The Scan To menu displays.
  2. From the Scan To menu, touch Computer, and then touch the computer you are scanning to. The Select Scan Type menu displays.
  3. From the Select Scan Type menu, touch the scan type from a list of options.
  4. Touch Start Scan. The product scans the document or image, and then saves it as a PDF file to the computer.
Follow these steps to scan to a computer with a USB cable connection.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not already on.
  2. Open the scanner cover.

  3. Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guide on the right-front corner of the scanner glass.

  4. Close the scanner cover.

Follow these steps to scan from the control panel.
  1. On the product control panel, touch the Scan icon (). The Scan To menu displays.
  2. From the Scan To menu, touch Computer, and then touch the computer you are scanning to. The Select Scan Type menu displays.
  3. From the Select Scan Type menu, touch the scan type from a list of options.
  4. Touch Start Scan. The product scans the document or image, and then saves it as a PDF file to the computer.
