Features supported by the Microsoft(R) Windows XP IDE driver
The driver needed for HP IDE devices to function as readers is supplied with the operating system. The Windows XP IDE driver allows the operating system to detect the HP CD-Writer hardware and allows the drive to function as a CD reader. However, Windows XP compatible CD writing software is needed for the drive to function as a writer.
Features not supported with the Windows XP IDE driver
An IDE driver will only allow the drive to function as a reader. Windows XP-compatible CD recording software is necessary to allow the drive to write to CD-R and CD-RW media.
HP CD-Writer software for Windows XP
To use the drive as a writer, Windows XP compatible CD writing software is needed. HP CD mastering software is available for downloading and can be accessed from the link in the following table.
Other updated CD recording software for Windows XP will be available to download free of charge from the HP Web site and it will be posted as soon as it is available.
If a hard copy of the software is desired, a CD may be ordered from the HP Web site. The order can either be placed on-line or over the phone.
