Introduction
Why do you need it?
This patch contains the Riptide Audio Driver 4.12.01.2156 and the Modem Driver 2.2.2.164.015 North America Only.
  • On some systems, attempting to use the modem after coming out of suspend mode will cause the system to lock up. Only a reboot will allow you to use the modem.
  • This update addresses issues with Version 4, of the Music Match Software, which causes the computer to lockup when the software ejects the CD or the user pushes the button to activate the CD tray.
  • This patch adds a better V.90 fallback, which addresses connection to ISPs.
  • The patch addresses connection issues with Bay Networks server and Prodigy.

To download the rip417na.exe file
NOTE: The screen shots below were taken from Microsoft (R) Internet Explorer, and may appear differently in your browser (for example, Netscape). The downloading procedure will also vary slightly, depending on the browser you use.
  1. Go to the HP Customer Care page to locate the software update page on the Hewlett-Packard Web site.
  2. Enter your HP Pavilion model number (Example 4430) and then click GO.
  3. Select Software and Drivers, and then look for the appropriate update file listed in the one of the different categories.
  4. After you find the update click the file description.
  5. If a Security Alert window appears, read the warning, and then click Yes.
  6. The File Download window appears. Select "Save this program to disk," and then click OK.
  7. Select a folder you would like to save the driver update to. Take care to note which directory the rip417na.exe file is downloading to, or write the path down (for example, C:/WINDOWS/TEMP).
  8. The driver downloads to the directory you selected.
  9. When the "Download complete" message appears, click OK, and then click the "X" in the upper-right corner to close the driver screen.
  10. If a message appears asking if you would like to disconnect from the Internet, click Yes. You are now ready to install the driver.

To install the rip417na.exe file
CAUTION: Before installing the update, it is important to close all programs running in Windows 98.
  1. On the main screen, click the Start button in the lower-left corner, click Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type rip417na.exe. Click the down arrow next to the Look in box, and then select HP_Pavilion (C:). Be sure that a check mark appears in the box by Include subfolders.
  3. Click Find Now, and then double-click rip417na.exe.
  4. Click Unzip.
  5. Click OK
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
