CompactFlash Card Compatibility Guide

  • PrintPrint

Introduction

This document provides information about memory and flash card compatibility issues for the HP Photosmart digital cameras. With a few exceptions, most Type 1 CompactFlash (CF) cards, of any capacity, are acceptable for use in HP digital cameras.
NOTE: Early versions of camera software may be limited in the number of images capable of being transferred to the computer. When using large capacity CF cards with early software, simply limit the number of pictures transferred per batch.

Exceptions for the HP Photosmart 315 and 315xi Using Windows 2000 and Microsoft(R) Windows XP

Using the HP Photosmart 315 and 315xi digital cameras with systems running Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP may require a card reader for 32 MB or larger CF cards. More details are provided in the document titled, HP Photosmart 315 and 315xi Digital Cameras - Flash Card not Formatted, No Pictures Found Error in Microsoft(R) Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

SanDisk card compatibility

HP recommends using the SanDisk brand CompactFlash memory card. HP tested the SanDisk flash cards [4, 8, and 24 megabytes (MB) cards] with each of the following laptops:
  • Compaq Armada 4130T
  • Compaq Armada 1120
  • Compaq Armada 1430
  • Dell Latitude 160TPI
  • HP Omnibook 5000C
  • HP Omnibook 5500C
  • HP Omnibook 600C
  • HP Omnibook 800C
  • HP Omnibook 5700CT

  • IBM ThinkPad 760C
  • Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT
  • Toshiba Satellite 220
  • Toshiba Tecra 510CDT
  • Toshiba Satellite 650
HP also tested the SanDisk flashcards with three external flashcard readers:
  • Adtron Parallel port reader
  • Adtron SCSI reader
  • Carry-On parallel port reader
NOTE: The Action Tek parallel port reader was found to be unsatisfactory.
Each flash card was formatted and filled with the maximum number of pictures that it would hold using each of the three resolutions. All of the above products were tested extensively for compatibility with the HP Photosmart digital cameras.

Tested compatible

Below are the CompactFlash cards that tested compatible with the HP Photosmart digital cameras.
NOTE: Support is not limited to the CompactFlash capacities shown. Higher capacities are supported as long as a compatible memory card is being used. Use only CompactFlash Association (CFA)-certified flash memory cards with HP Photosmart digital cameras. Several vendors manufacture these cards. Other memory cards may work with the camera, but are not supported by HP.
