Introduction
This document is intended to explain how to obtain the Recovery Software on CD or DVD for those HP Pavilion & Compaq Presario PCs bought in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

This document provides different options for obtaining or creating recovery discs for HP and Compaq PC's considering. Use the option that works best for you and for the computer you have.
NOTE: Not all options described below are valid for all HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario PC's. Please read the instructions carefully, as the options will vary depending on the age and technical specifications of your computer.
Option 1: Determine if your computer already has the Recovery Software in a hard drive partition
Most HP and Compaq desktop PC's that ship with Windows Vista and XP do not include recovery discs, instead, the hard drive contains a recovery partition with the Operating System, drivers and programs preinstalled. This partition, in some models, is hidden to prevent it from being erased, but in most of the models it is visible although locked.
The system can be restored to factory settings through this partition by pressing F10 or F11 repeatedly while the PC is booting.
NOTE: If any of the hard drive partitions has been modified or aditional partitions have been created, it is possible that the recovery system cannot boot or the recovery discs cannot be created.
Option 2: Create your recovery discs using the Recovery creator software
Some HP and Compaq computers have a Recovery creator software that can create one set of recovery discs. To see detailed instructions on how to create the recovery disc set click the appropriate link below:
However, if the Recovery creator software does not work or is not available in your computer, or the already created recovery disc set does not work, it is possible to order a new recovery disc set by following the instructions of the section Option 4: Order the recovery disc set .
Option 3: Use the recovery disc set included in the box
Earlier HP PC models included the Recovery Software on CD-ROMs (Recovery CD's), and it is recommended to use them.
If your recovery disc set originally came in the box and is now missing or has become defective, see the section Option 4: Order the recovery disc set .
Option 4: Order the recovery disc set
If you are not able to create a set of recovery discs, you may be able to order a set of replacement discs from HP or one of its authorized partners in your country.
HP maintains a stock of replacement recovery disc set for several years after the product has been released. However, because of licensing restrictions, HP is only able to provide these recovery disc sets for a limited time. If your computer is several years past its warranty period, HP may not be able to supply replacement discs for your computer. If this is the case, you can install a new Operating System that meets the minimum system requirements of your computer, or, alternatively, upgrade your computer hardware.
NOTE: Some recovery disc sets for obsolete Operating Systems may have run out of stock and may not be available to order. HP cannot create recovery discs that contain a version of Windows that has been turned obsolete by Microsoft, such as Windows 98 , and Me . For further information, click here (in English).

Contacting HP Support
If you cannot order a recovery disc set from HP or you cannot create a usable set from your computer, contact HP Support . HP may be able to send out new discs or replace defective versions depending on your situation and availability. Please keep in that in some cases HP or its authorized partners may not have the recovery CD's anymore in stock. If this is the case, you can install a new Operating System that meets the minimum system requirements of your computer, or, alternatively, upgrade your computer hardware.
