Bluetooth Does Not Function After Using Windows Update in Windows XP

Description

When a notebook is configured to automatically download and install updates from Microsoft´s Windows Update, the Bluetooth hardware may not function after certain updates. The Windows Update function may install Microsoft versions of the Bluetooth software and drivers that are incompatible with HP products.

Solution

Perform one or more of the methods to correct the Bluetooth update problem.

Method 1: Re-install HP Bluetooth software

Do the following steps to uninstall the Microsoft software and re-install the Bluetooth by HP software.
  1. Click Start , Control Panel , then Add or Remove Programs .
  2. From the list, Click Remove next to the Microsoft Bluetooth Drivers.
  3. Once the drivers have been removed, click Start , Help and Support then Update Software & Drivers .
  4. When prompted, click System Health Check . When presented with a listing of Updates for Driver, Bios and Software, select HP Bluetooth software .
  5. Follow the prompts to install the software.

Method 2: Review Windows updates before installation

Do the following steps to prevent Windows from automatically installing incompatible Bluetooth drivers in the future.
  1. Open the Windows Update site and under the Automatic Update section click Pick a time to install updates .
  2. On the Automatic Updates window, click More Options .
  3. Select the Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them option and click OK to accept the change.
  4. In the future, when presented with a list of updates, do not install any Windows Bluetooth updates.
