This document describes how to find warranty and support information for your computer.
The hardware warranty for HP and Compaq notebook and tablet computers varies depending on geographical region, country, and product model. You may find the expressly provided HP Limited Warranty applicable to your
product with the electronic guides on your computer and/or on the
CD/DVD provided in the box. Some countries/regions may provide a printed
HP Limited Warranty in the box. To find warranty information for your computer, use the methods in this document.

Using HP Product Warranty Check
The HP Product Warranty Check site provides current warranty status, warranty category, and warranty end date, based on the serial number and product number.
- Using the Internet Explorer web browser, go to the HP Product Warranty Check web page.
NOTE:This page may not display properly in other browsers. - On the form, select your country, enter your serial number (s/n) and product number (p/n), and then click Submit .To find your serial number and product number, see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
- The warranty information is displayed on the browser. If your computer is still under warranty, a list of online support options displays below the warranty information.(United States) If your warranty is about to expire, HP offers a wide range of extended service plans for HP computers. Information about these extended plans is displayed on the HP Total Care (in English) web site. The HP Total Care site displays information on how to buy an extended service plan that fits your needs. If you have already purchased an extended service plan, you can find answers to your questions by viewing the service terms and conditions for the plan you purchased.
Using HP Support Assistant (not available on all computers)
You can use the HP Support Assistant to find warranty information about your computer. Download the HP Support Assistant application at

In Windows 8:
- To search apps for HP Support Assistant, press the Windows
+ Q keys. - Type HP Support Assistant into the Search field.
- Click the HP Support Assistant icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
- In the HP Support Assistant window, click My computer .
- On the My computer window, click the radio button next to the desired privacy option [example: Yes, I agree to send this data whenever HP Support Assistant checks my Warranty status (recommended) ].
- Click the Check warranty now button.Support Assistant begins checking for warranty information.The HP Support Assistant window opens, displaying warranty information for your computer.
In Windows 7 and some earlier operating systems:
If your computer has the HP Support Assistant tool and the
icon is on your desktop or Windows taskbar, click the icon, click the Troubleshoot
box, and then click the Warranty and Services
box.

box.If there is no icon on the desktop or taskbar, use the following steps to open HP Support Assistant.
- Click Start
, All Programs
, and then click the HP
folder. - Click
HP Support Assistant
to open the program. - Click the Troubleshoot box.
- Click the Warranty and Services box.
- In the Information Request box, click the check mark next to Yes, I agree to send data to HP to check my warranty status (recommended) .
NOTE:If you previously agreed to send your computer data to HP, the Information Request box does not display.Wait while the Warranty and Services information loads.
Finding warranty information for Business notebooks and tablets
For business model notebooks (Probook, Elitebook, e.g.) use the following methods to obtain warranty information.
You may find the expressly provided HP Limited Warranty applicable to your
product located with the electronic guides on your computer and/or on the
CD/DVD provided in the box.
Use one of the following methods to locate the warranty information on your computer.

NOTE:The warranty information may no longer be available on the computer if the original operating system and software has been changed.
In Windows 8:
- To search apps, press the Windows
+ Q keys . - Type HP Documentation into the Search field.
- Click the HP Documentation icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
- On the HP Documentation window, click View Warranty Information .A PDF with warranty information opens.The warranty information is also available though HP Support Assistant by clicking My computer , User guides , and then clicking View Warranty Information .
In Windows 7 and some earlier operating systems:
- Click Start
, HP
, then Documentation
. - Click Start
, then Help and Support
. - Click the HP Support Assistant icon on the desktop, select Learn then User Guides .
The User guides window contains the warranty information as well as the manuals for the computer.
