Understanding problems with webcams
The notebook PC may intermittently display a Windows blue screen error R5U870FLx86. The error typically occurs when booting the notebook PC or during Standby/Hibernation mode. This error occurs on computers that are equipped with a built-in HP webcam when multiple instances of the webcam driver are installed. The notebook does not know which driver to use, which results in conflicts. Removing unnecessary instances of the driver resolves many error messages.
Test webcam with QuickPlay
After installing the updated imaging device driver, launch the QuickPlay application to verify that the built-in HP webcam works without prompting an error.
- If QuickPlay is installed on your computer, click Start , type QuickPlay into the search field, and then select QuickPlay from the list.
- If QuickPlay is not installed on your computer, it may have shipped as a disc in the box with your computer, or you maybe able to go to the HP web site and download the QuickPlay softpaq. If you experience problems after installing the updated imaging device drivers, please complete the survey at the bottom of this document.
- Record a short video with the webcam using Quickplay, and then play it back. If the image or sound in the playback is too fast, then install the webcam fast recording patch, and test again.
