Blinking Lights

Introduction

Lights blinking, or flashing, on the printer can signal a possible issue with the printer. This document lists steps to correct any issues shown by the flashing lights. Find the pattern of flashing lights that matches the lights flashing on your printer. Then follow the directions.
NOTE:Flashing lights can be caused by multiple issues, so there might be multiple solutions listed in each section.

Issue

The HP Photosmart printer is not responding.

Solution

  1. Check the On light located on the top of the HP Photosmart printer. If it is not lit, the HP Photosmart printer is turned off.
  2. Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the HP Photosmart printer and plugged into a power outlet.
  3. Press the On button to turn on the HP Photosmart printer.

Issue

The HP Photosmart printer does not read the memory card.

Solution

  1. Turn the memory card so that the label side is up and the contacts are facing the HP Photosmart printer.
  2. Push the memory card forward into the appropriate slot until the Photo light turns on.


After the memory card has been inserted properly, the Photo tray light will blink for a few seconds, and then stay lit.
Issue

The Attention light blinks when the memory card is inserted.
Solution one

  1. Remove and reinsert the memory card.
  2. Turn the memory card so that the label side is up and the contacts are facing the HP Photosmart printer.
  3. Push the memory card forward into the appropriate slot until the Photo light turns on.


If the problem continues, the memory card might be defective. Replace it.

Solution two

If you had inserted more than one memory card, remove one of the memory cards. You can use only one memory card at a time.
Cause

  • The memory card is inserted backward or upside down. If the memory card is not inserted properly, the HP Photosmart printer does not respond. In addition, the Photo tray light (near the memory card slots) does not turn on.
  • The HP Photosmart printer has detected an error with the memory card.
  • More than one memory card were inserted.

Issue

The Photo light next to the memory card slots is blinking.

Solution

A flashing light means the HP Photosmart printer is accessing the memory card. Wait until the light stays solid.

CAUTION:Do not pull out the memory card while the Photo light is flashing. Removing a memory card while the printer is accessing it can corrupt information on the memory card or damage the HP Photosmart printer and memory card.


Cause

The HP Photosmart printer is reading the memory card.
