Printed Text or Image Is Skewed or Crooked
The printer is working, but the printed output is not straight on the page. It is skewed or crooked.
Solution one: Ensure that paper is loaded correctly
- Do not load paper of different types or sizes in the tray.
- Remove or uncurl any curled paper.
- Adjust the paper guides so they fit snugly against the paper.
- Ensure that the paper is flat in the tray.
Solution two: Ensure that the printer is within skew tolerance
Step one: Print a diagnostic page
- Make sure the product is on and connected to the computer.
- From the HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu.
- Point to Print Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox.The Toolbox opens.
- Click the Services tab, and then click Print Self-Test Diagnostic Page. The self-test diagnostic page prints.
Step two: Check whether the printer is within skew tolerance
Use the marks at the top and bottom of the diagnostic page to determine if your printer has a skew problem.
- Note that the diagnostic page has a single vertical line at the top, a horizontal line near the middle, and double vertical lines at the bottom of the page. You will use these lines to check for printer skew.
- Fold the diagnostic page in half on the horizontal line printed near the middle of the page.
- Align the left edge of the paper carefully to keep the fold square. You should be able to see, through the paper, the single and double lines. The single line at the top of the page should fall between the two lines at the bottom of the page.Figure 3: Good and bad examples1 - Good example - the single line is inside the double lines2 - Bad example - the single line is outside the double linesIf the single line is inside the double lines, the printer mechanism is functioning correctly.If the single line is outside the double lines, follow the procedure in the next section to clean the paper rollers.
Step three: Clean the paper rollers
- Turn the product off, and then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove the rear access door.
- Wipe the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth that is lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water. Rotate the rollers manually to clean all the way around them.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely, and then replace the rear access door.
- Plug the power cord into the wall outlet, and turn the product on.
Solution three: Service the printer
