This document pertains only to HP desktop computers with the following computer cases:
Before you begin
  • Turn off the computer, disconnect all cables, and transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface on a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
WARNING: The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
CAUTION: This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the front panel
To replace the power switch, the optical drives, the front I/O panel, the hard drive, or the memory card reader, the front outer cover must be removed.
WARNING: Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the computer, remove the right side panel.

Step 2. Locate the three side tabs that secure the front panel to the chassis on the right side of the computer.
Step 3. Pull each tab to free the cover.
Step 4. To remove the front panel, rotate it away from the computer.
Replacing the front panel
The front panel has six tabs.
The tabs fit into six slots on the computer.
Step 1. Align the three tabs on the left side of the panel with the slots on the computer.
Step 2. Rotate the panel into position.
Step 3. Snap the front panel firmly into place and replace the right side panel.
