Upgrading HP Photosmart Essential or HP Photosmart Studio to HP Photo Creations

Introduction

HP Photo Creations software replaces HP Photosmart Essential (Windows) and HP Photosmart Studio (Mac) software. Although HP still supports HP Photosmart Essential and HP Photosmart Studio, HP recommends that you upgrade to HP Photo Creations.
To uninstall or remove HP Photosmart Essential, view the section in this document for Uninstalling HP Photosmart Essential v 3.0 or 3.5 .
CAUTION:It is not necessary to uninstall or remove HP Photosmart Essential software in order to upgrade to HP Photo Creations. You can access photos edited in Photosmart Essential from any other photo application, including Photo Creations. However, you can only edit Photosmart Essential projects such as photo books, scrapbooking pages, ArcSoft cards, or ArcSoft calendars from HP Photosmart Essential. If you want to maintain editing access to these projects, do not remove HP Photosmart Essential from your computer.

Follow these steps to upgrade HP Photosmart Essential to HP Photo Creations in Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
  1. Open a new window to browse to the HP Photo Creative Web site:
    Right-click the following link, HP Photo Creative , and then select Open in New Window . The HP Photo Creative Web site opens.
  2. Under For Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 , click the Free Download button. A File Download Security Warning window opens.
  3. Click Run . A window opens to show the progress of the software download.
  4. Once the software downloads, a window opens with the question, Do you want to run this software? Click Run . The HP Photo Creations Setup wizard opens.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install HP Photo Creations.
  6. When the installation completes, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
Follow these steps to upgrade HP Photosmart Studio to HP Photo Creations in Mac OS X.
  1. Open a new window to browse to the HP Photo Creative Web site:
    CTRL+click the following link, HP Photo Creative , and then select Open in New Window . The HP Photo Creative Web site opens.
  2. Under For Mac OS X , click the Free Download button. A File Download window opens.
  3. Click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
    Hint: Make a note of the place where you save the file.
  4. Click Save again. A window opens to show the progress of the software download.
  5. Once the software downloads, browse to the location where you saved the file, and then double-click the file. The HP Photo Creations Setup wizard opens.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to install HP Photo Creations.
  7. When the installation completes, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
Choose your operating system, and then follow the steps to remove HP Photosmart Essential.
Use one of the following methods to remove HP Photosmart Essential v 3.0 or 3.5 in Windows XP.
  1. Click Start , click All Programs , click HP , click HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 or HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 , and then click Uninstall Photosmart Essential .
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software.
  1. Click Start , and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs .
  3. Click Change or Remove Programs .
  4. Select HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 or HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 from the list of installed programs.
  5. Click Change/Remove , and then follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software.
Use one of the following methods to remove the HP Photosmart Essential v 3.0 or 3.5 software in Windows Vista.
  1. Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 or HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 , and then click Uninstall Photosmart Essential .
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software.
  1. Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel opens.
  2. Double-click the Programs icon.
  3. Click Uninstall a program in the Programs and Features section.
  4. Select HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 or HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 from the list of installed programs.
  5. Click Uninstall/Change .
  6. Click Continue to confirm the uninstall, and then follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software.
