Programming the remote control code
Your HP remote control is programmable. Program the remote control to operate home entertainment devices such as your HDTV, audio receiver, DVD player, PVR, or set-top box. See the Manufacturer codes for compatible brands listed at the end of this topic. If the brand of your device is not listed, try programming the device using the steps in Programming the device code using auto setup mode .
For the HP MediaSmart Connect or each programmed primary device, you can also program a second device such as an external sound system for volume mapping, where pressing the Volume buttons or Mute button adjusts the sound level at the second device. See Programming the second device for volume mapping .
Use the following steps to program a primary device if your brand is listed.
NOTE: Read all the steps completely before proceeding. Highlight or write down the codes and device you wish to program before performing step 4.
  1. Locate the brand of your device and manufacturer codes from the Manufacturer codes for compatible brands listings.
  2. Turn on the TV or the device you would like to control.
  3. Press Device button on the remote control as needed to select the primary device (TV , CBL , DVD , or AUX ) that you want to program. Wait until the device indicator light on the remote control goes out.
  4. Hold down Device button on the remote control for 5 seconds until the device light blinks, and then release the Device button. The device light blinks one more time and then remains lit, indicating the remote control is in programming mode.
  5. Enter the first four-digit code for your brand from the listing. If the code is accepted, the device light blinks twice. If the code is not accepted, the device light blinks three times.
NOTE: If the device light did not blink twice, then repeat steps 4 and 5, entering either the same code or the next code, if there is one.
    Important information:
    • Enter code 9 , 9 , 9 , 9 to reset the selected device to the factory default manufacturer value.
    • Pressing the 1 , 3 , and 0 buttons on the remote control at the same time resets all the programmable devices to factory values.
  6. Aim the remote control at the device, and press the On/Off button once. The device should turn off.
NOTE: If the device does not have a On/Off button, press Play .
If the device does not respond, repeat steps 4 and 5, trying each code for your brand until you find one that works. If it still does not work, try searching for the code using auto setup mode; see Programming the device code using auto setup mode .
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for each device you want to control with the remote control.

  2. Turn on the second device you would like to program as a second device for volume mapping.

  7. Aim the remote control at the second device, and press the button once. The sound should turn off.
If the device does not respond, repeat steps 4 through 7, trying each code for your brand until you find one that works.

  1. Turn on the primary device you would like to program.
  2. kflkjvklavih

    • If the device does not turn off, continue to press and release the On/Off button, waiting each time for the device light to stop blinking, until the home entertainment device turns off.
NOTE: Each time you press the On/Off button, the auto setup is trying a different code. Be sure to wait until the device light stops blinking before pressing the On/Off button again. You may need to press the On/Off button several times before the correct code is found.

Remote control battery installation
Insert two AA batteries into the remote control, ensuring that you place them with the proper polarity.
  1. Press and open the cover on the back of the remote control.
  2. Insert the batteries into the remote control, and make sure that you match polarities (+ and -).
  3. Close the cover.
WARNING: Incorrect installation can cause battery leakage and corrosion that will damage the remote control transmitter. Observe the following precautions:
    • Do not mix battery types (example: zinc carbon with alkaline).
    • Do not combine a used battery with a new one.
    • Be sure to follow the correct polarity when installing the batteries as indicated in the battery compartment. Reversed batteries may cause damage to the device.
    • When not using the remote for a long period of time, remove the batteries to prevent damage or injury from possible battery leakage.
    • Do not try to recharge batteries that are not intended to be recharged; they can overheat and rupture. Follow the manufacturer's directions for the batteries you are using.
    • Always remove batteries as soon as they become weak. Weak batteries can leak and severely damage the unit. The battery life depends on how much the remote control is used. Replace batteries when remote control operation becomes erratic.
    • Do not take apart the batteries, heat them, or throw them into a fire.
