  • PrintPrint

Issue

While you install the HP software, the following fatal error message displays on the computer: 'Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one.'
Choose your Windows operating system from the following options, and then follow the solutions and steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
Follow these steps to resolve the source of the error and reinstall the software. A reinstall of the software deletes and overwrites any of the files that might cause the error and resets the Windows Installer.

Step one: Close the error message and complete the other installation

  1. Close the error message and complete the installation that was already in progress.
NOTE: Microsoft Installer (MSI) installs programs on your computer and can install only one program at a time.
  2. When the installation is complete, go to Step two to install the HP software.

Step two: Install the HP Software

Follow these steps to install the HP software by either downloading the most current software from the HP website or using the printer CD.
NOTE:The software that you can download from the HP website is the most current software available for your printer. HP often updates software and drivers after the printer and CD release to the market.
CAUTION:If you get any third-party firewall messages during installation (for example, a message from McAfee), click continue, unblock, yes, allow, or permit. Otherwise the software installation fails.
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer (if you already connected it). If the printer is connected to your network, leave it connected.
  3. If the Welcome to HP Support page opens, follow these steps:
    1. In the Enter product name or number field, type your printer model or number.
    2. In the Questions or keywords field, type driver, and then press Enter.
You might need to select your printer model number from a list of similar printer models.
    3. Next to the image of your printer, click the name of your printer.

Follow these steps to install the software with the printer CD.
CAUTION:Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so during software installation. HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 3 m (10 feet) long.
NOTE:If you get any firewall messages during installation, click continue, unblock, yes, allow, or permit. Otherwise the software installation fails.
  1. Insert the software CD into the CD drive of the computer. The software installer starts automatically.
NOTE:If the User Account Control screen opens, click Allow to continue.
If the Install Wizard does not open automatically, follow these steps to open it:
    • Click Start, click My Computer, and then double-click the CD drive.
