  • PrintPrint
This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with Windows 7 or Vista.
On a notebook equipped with a wireless LAN device or Bluetooth module, the recovery process may not complete successfully, or may display the following error message, if the wireless button is turned OFF when a system recovery is performed.
The recovery attempt has failed. Please select one of the following buttons.
  • Details
  • Retry
A recovery process can fail if it is interrupted by pressing the keys, or turning off the power before the recovery is complete. The recovery process will pause for several minutes when it finishes reinstalling the operating system. If any action is performed, or if the power is turned off, the recovery may fail. Do not press any computer keys and allow the process to unbundle and setup the original software programs. The recovery process is not complete until a prompt is displayed to log on to the computer.

Resolving a system recovery failure

If a computer is restored using recovery disks that you created, but fails to start properly and does not open to the Windows desktop, you may need to perform the recovery again. To use the f11 key to start the recovery from the recovery partition, follow the steps below.
  1. When the notebook is powered on, press the wireless button to turn ON the wireless switch.
  2. Reboot the Notebook PC.
  3. Press f11 to boot from the Recovery Manager.
  4. Click Next when Welcome to Recovery Manager displays.
  5. Select No and then click Next when Microsoft System Restore displays.
  6. Select Yes and then click Next when System Recovery displays.
  7. Select the appropriate item (backup file or not) and then click Next when Recover your computer to original factory condition displays.
  8. Allow the system recovery process to complete.
Your computer will be restored to its original factory condition. You may use your computer normally after logging in to Windows.
