When HP replaces your defective product, some accessories or parts need to be transferred from the defective product to the replacement product.
NOTE:
  • Some optional accessories might not be included with your product model.
  • Keep any optional accessories that you bought separately.

Instructions

Prior to replacing or disposing of your defective unit, follow these instructions to ensure the right accessories are removed from the defective unit.
CAUTION:Please do not remove and keep the Output tray but ship it alongside the defective unit.
1 - Output tray
Output Tray

  1. Make sure that the unit is plugged in and turned on before removing the ink cartridges and the printheads.
    a) Ink cartridges
    • Turn on the unit (if not yet turned on) and wait until the print carriage is idle and silent.
    • Gently pull open the ink cartridge cover.
    • Remove the ink cartridges from their slots by grasping each one between your thumb and forefinger and pulling it firmly backwards.
    • Place the ink cartridges in an airtight plastic container so they do not dry out and put them aside.
    • Close the ink cartridge cover.
    b) Printheads
    • Turn on the unit (if not yet turned on) and wait until the print carriage is idle and silent.
    • If your HP All-in-One printer model is HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer A909a and the carriage does not move to the left automatically, press and hold the OK button for five seconds. Wait for the carriage to stop moving, and then unplug the power cord from the All-in-One product.
    • If your HP All-in-One printer model is HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One A909g and the carriage does not move to the left automatically, press and hold the Star (*) key for five seconds. Wait for the carriage to stop moving, and then unplug the power cord from the All-in-One product.
    • Lift the printhead latch.
    • Lift the handle of each printhead and use it to pull each printhead out of its slot.
    Then, unplug the HP Officejet All-in-One printer and keep the following accessories:
    c) Power supply adapter
    d) Power cord
    e) Ethernet cable
    f) Phone cable
    g) USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable
    h) Second tray
    The Second tray is an optional accessory. Skip to next step if your HP Officejet printer does not include this accessory.
    CAUTION:Remove and keep only the Second tray and ship the Input/Output tray assembly alongside the defective unit.

    i) Two-sided printing accessory
    To remove the two-sided printing accessory, push the button on either side of it, and then remove the accessory by pulling it away from the HP printer.
    j) Bluetooth adapter
    k) Print server
    Remove and keep any of the HP print servers compatible with the HP All-in-One printer.
    • HP Jetdirect 175x Fast Ethernet Print Server
    • HP Jetdirect en3700 Fast Ethernet Print Server
    • HP Jetdirect ew2400 802.11g Wireless Print Server
    l) Memory cards
    m) Product manuals and CD
  2. Keep the accessories mentioned above to use with the replacement product.
  3. Power on the replacement product and test all product functions.
