Step 1: Setting up the monitor
Your flat-panel LCD monitor can be set up for desktop use or can be wall mounted.
Setting up the monitor for desktop use
You can install the monitor on a desktop or wall-mount it. Place the monitor in a convenient, well-ventilated place near your computer.
Connect the monitor cables after you have installed the monitor.
CAUTION:The screen is fragile. Avoid touching or applying pressure to the LCD screen; doing so can cause
damage. Unfold the monitor by lifting it from the top edge of the bezel.
- Set the monitor face down on a flat, soft, protected surface.
- Grip the base near where it attaches to the monitor with one hand and lift the top part of the monitor until it is unfolded into the desired position.
Adjusting the monitor position
Use the following steps to adjust the monitor height, tilt, swivel, and orientation for a good viewing angle.
- Face the front of the monitor and hold the base with one hand.
- Adjust the tilt by moving the monitor top edge toward or away from you, without touching the screen.CAUTION:The double-hinged monitor can fall back if the hinge is extended fully and the monitor is tilted back too far.
- Swivel the monitor left or right for the best angle.
NOTE:The foot of the base has a swivel, allowing the base to turn with the monitor.
Mounting the monitor on the wall
The monitor can be attached to a wall-mounting arm that you buy separately.
Preparing to install a wall-mounting arm (not supplied)
Before you mount the monitor on a wall, a swing arm, or other
mounting fixture, remove the monitor base.
WARNING:Check that the wall-mounting fixture is adequately installed and secured before attaching the monitor. Refer to the instructions supplied with the wall-mounting fixture and check that it can support the monitor.
WARNING:Make sure the monitor is lying flat, with the screen
down. Attempting to remove the base or pedestal from the monitor
while it is upright might result in personal injury.
CAUTION:The screen is fragile. Placing the monitor face-down
on a flat, soft area prevents scratches, defacing, or breakage.
- Turn off the monitor power, and disconnect all power, video, and audio cables.
- Place the monitor face-down on a soft, protected surface.
- Remove the four screws that fasten monitor base to the monitor.
- Slide the base off the back of the monitor.
- Remove the square plate on the back of monitor. Use a coin at the base of the plate to pry it loose.Four threaded holes are exposed. These holes are for screws to attach the swing arm or other mounting fixture to the back of the monitor.
- Follow the instructions included with the mounting fixture to make sure that the monitor is safely attached.The four threaded holes that are on the back of the panel are compliant with the VESA standard for mounting flat-panel monitors.
- Save the cover, screws, and base for future use.
Installing a wall mounting arm
Mount the monitor to a swing arm or other mounting fixture by following the instructions included with the mounting fixture. Ensure that the monitor is safely attached.
NOTE:Mounting fixture is sold separately.
- Place the monitor panel screen down on the flat, soft area.
- Place the wall mounting arm onto the back of the monitor. Line up the holes of the arm with the mounting holes in the back of the monitor.
- Insert the four screws into the mounting holes and tighten.
- Reconnect the cables.
- See the user’s manual that came with the wall mounting arm (purchased separately) for instructions on attaching it to the wall.
Step 2: Connecting the monitor to the computer
WARNING:To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to your equipment:
- Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug is an important safety feature. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Be sure the grounded power outlet you plug the power cord into is easily accessible to the operator and located as close to the equipment as possible. Route the power code to prevent objects being placed on it or someone walking on it.
- Do not place anything on power cords or cables. Arrange them so that no one accidentally steps on or trips over them. Do not pull on a cord or cable.
- Turn off the computer.
- Connect the built-in monitor speakers to the computer, using the audio cable (green connector).NOTE:If you want to connect the monitor using an HDMI cable, do not connect the sound cable because the HDMI cable transfers both sound and video. However, the device that sends audio and video to the monitor must be set to send audio using HDMI. For example, if the monitor is connected to a computer using an HDMI connection, HDMI must be selected as the default audio device in Windows.
- To attach a VGA cable, connect one end of the 15-pin D-Sub VGA cable (blue connector) to the back of the monitor and connect the other end to the computer VGA port.
- To attach a DVI cable (not provided), connect one end of the 24-pin DVI cable (white connector) to the back of the monitor and connect the other end to the computer DVI port.
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable (select models only) to the back of the monitor, and the other end to any compatible digital audio or video source, such as a set-top box, a DVD player, or a digital television.
- Connect one end of the power cord to the back of the monitor and plug the other end into a grounded outlet.
- The cables can be partially hidden from view from the front of the monitor by routing them through the square hole in the rear of the monitor base.
- Turn on your monitor and computer.
Step 3: Selecting the video input source
Attach a VGA cable (provided), or a DVI-D or an HDMI cable, or both to the monitor. The HDMI cable (select models only) replaces the DVI cable. To use DVI, your computer must have a DVI-compliant graphics adapter. If both cables are installed, the default input selection is DVI or HDMI.
Press the Source
button under the right front edge of the monitor to toggle between VGA and DVI, or VGA and HDMI.
Or
- Press the Menu button on the front of the monitor to access the OSD main menu.
- Navigate to Switch Video Input by pressing the + (plus) or – (minus) buttons on the monitor.The Switch Video Input toggles between VGA and DVI, or VGA and HDMI.
- Click Save and Return after you make your choice.
Step 4: Installing drivers
Install the monitor-driver INF and ICM files from the CD, or download them from the Internet as follows:
Installing drivers from the CD
To install the monitor driver from the CD:
- Insert the CD in your computer CD drive.The CD menu displays.
- Select the language.
- Click Install Monitor Driver Software .
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Restart the computer.
- Check that the proper resolutions and refresh rates display in the Display Properties window in Control Panel.
Installing drivers from the Web
To download the latest version of drivers and software files from the HP Support Web site:
- Go to the HP Support Web site .
- Select your country/region.
- Select Download Drivers and Software .
- Enter the model number of your monitor, for example: 2159mThe software downloads information for your monitor.
- Make sure your system meets the specified requirements.
- Download and install the driver and software files by following the steps on the screen.
Tips and recommendations
- Unplug your monitor from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. If the screen requires additional cleaning, use an antistatic screen cleaner.
- Do not open your monitor cabinet or attempt to service this product yourself. Adjust only those controls that are covered in the operating instructions. If your monitor is not operating properly, or has been dropped or damaged, contact your HP authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider.
- Use only a power source and connection appropriate for this monitor, as indicated on the label/back plate of the monitor.
- Never disconnect the monitor by pulling the cord. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet by grasping the plug firmly.
- Turn your monitor off when not in use. You can substantially increase the life expectancy of your monitor by using a screen saver program and turning off the monitor when not in use.
- When removing the monitor base, place the monitor face down on a soft flat area to prevent it from getting scratched, defaced, or broken.
- Burn-in image damage might occur on monitors that display the same static image onscreen for a prolonged period of time. To avoid burn-in image damage, use a screen saver software program or turn off the monitor when it is not in use.
