Error Message May Display When Launching HP Wireless Assistant From Control Panel After Performing System Recovery

The HP Wireless Assistant helps setup and monitor your connections to a wireless network by reporting the following settings and functions of the integrated wireless devices in your computer.
  • Checks the computer at startup for the presence of integrated wireless devices
  • Displays the power status of each device
  • Displays alerts when the status of the devices change
  • Allows the integrated wireless devices to be turned on or off separately, or at the same time

Possible wireless assistant error

If it was necessary to restore the operating system by performing a system recovery from either F11 or the HP Recovery Manager, the following error message may display when you launch the HP Wireless Assistant from the Control Panel.

To correct this issue, it is necessary to uninstall, and then reinstall HP Wireless Assistant. The program can either be re-installed from the HP Recovery Manager, or downloaded and installed from HP support web site.

Uninstalling HP Wireless Assistant

To uninstall the current version before installing a new version of HP Wireless Assistant, follow this procedure.
  1. Click Start , Control Panel , and then click Uninstall a program under Programs.
  2. Select HP Wireless Assistant and then click Uninstall .
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you have completely uninstalled HP Wireless Assistant, you can reinstall the new version.

Installing HP Wireless Assistant from the Recovery Manager

To install HP Wireless Assistant using the HP Recovery Manager, follow this procedure.
  1. Reboot the notebook PC and then press F11 when the HP logo displays.
  2. Click Advanced options on the HP Recovery Manager screen.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to select to install the HP Wireless Assistant.
  4. Reboot the notebook PC after completing the installation.
When the installation is complete, the HP Wireless Assistant icon is displayed in the system tray.

Downloading and installing HP Wireless Assistant

To install HP Wireless Assistant from the HP web site, follow this procedure.
  1. Go to the HP Drivers and Downloads page for your model and enter the product number.
  2. Under Select operating system, click the installed operating system .
  3. Scroll down to Driver - Network section and find HP Wireless Assistant .
  4. Click Download , and follow the instructions to save the file on the computer desktop.
  5. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the instructions to install the HP Wireless Assistant.
  6. Reboot the notebook PC after completing the installation.
When the installation is complete, the HP Wireless Assistant icon is displayed in the system tray.
