HP Products with Print Drivers Supported in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X 10.7 Lion, and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

With the release of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, HP is providing updated print drivers and software for your printer. These updates are available through Apple Software Update . You do not need to download a driver from HP to use your printer with Mountain Lion.

Depending on the printer functionality, one or more of the following HP software components might be included from Apple Software Update:

Print drivers for the following printer types are supported in Mountain Lion by the HP software available from Apple Software Update. These drivers provide print-only functionality.

After the public release of Mountain Lion, HP is releasing updated full HP software packages for many printer models. The packages include the HP Installer with network setup and HP Scan software. The schedule delay allows time for full testing and quality assurance from HP against the final Mountain Lion release.

Apple's AirPrint provides basic printing functionality for AirPrint-enabled HP printers that are connected to a wireless or wired (Ethernet) network. No additional software is downloaded when you add an AirPrint-enabled printer in Mountain Lion. AirPrint is not available if the printer connects to the Mac, an AirPort Base Station, or a Time Capsule with a USB cable.

Important : After updating your Mac to Mountain Lion, you might receive one of the following messages if you try to install older HP software designed for previous versions of Mac OS, either from an original product CD or from the HP website.

This is expected behavior because the software is designed for earlier versions of Mac OS. The message merely notifies you that you must install updated HP software for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Full print, scan, and fax drivers for HP Inkjet All-in-Ones (Deskjet, Officejet, and Photosmart) are supported by the HP software available from Apple Software Update.

Print drivers for the following printer types are supported in Lion by the HP software available from Apple Software Update. These drivers provide print-only functionality.

After the public release of Lion, HP released full HP software packages for Lion on HP Software & Driver Downloads for many printer models. The packages include the HP Installer with network setup and HP Scan software. The schedule delay allowed time for full testing and quality assurance from HP against the final Lion release.

Important : Older HP software might not be compatible with OS X 10.7 Lion. After installing Lion, you might receive a 'Unsupported Operating System ' message if you try to install HP software for previous versions of Mac OS, either from an original product CD or from HP Software & Driver Downloads. This is expected behavior because the software is designed for operating systems previous to Lion.

Updated HP drivers compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard are available through Apple Software Update .

Important : Older HP software is not compatible with Snow Leopard. Do not try to install earlier versions of HP software, either from the original product CD or from HP Software & Driver Downloads. The latest HP software that is compatible with Snow Leopard is included in Mac OS X 10.6. You will experience the best performance and functionality if you use the latest HP software.

There are several important HP software updates included in Mac OS X 10.6:

Full print, scan, and fax drivers for HP Inkjet All-in-Ones (Deskjet, Officejet, and Photosmart) are included in Snow Leopard. Scanning is supported with the Apple Preview and Image Capture Applications in Snow Leopard.
