"USBHUB.SYS" Error Message Appears on Blue Screen When Resuming From Standby or Hibernation

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with Windows Vista
When a Vista-based computer resumes from sleep or from hibernation, it may experience one or more of the following problems:
  • A device such as a fingerprint reader, a Windows Media Center remote control, or an optical drive crashes or no longer works correctly.
  • After removing a USB device, you cannot reconnect the device.
  • When you connect a USB device, you receive a "Stop 0x7e" error message that resembles the following:
    STOP 0x1000007E
    usbhub.sys
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
  • You receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:
    STOP 127
    PAGE_NOT_ZERO_NVIDIA_USB
These errors occur on Windows Vista-based computers that have 2 gigabytes (GB) or more of RAM and an NVIDIA nForce EHCI controller.

Fixing the problem

The best way to fix this problem is to obtain Windows Vista service pack 2. If you want, Microsoft can install the hotfix for you by going to the Using Microsoft's Fixit section.

Downloading and installing Vista SP2

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Vista by running Windows Update and HP Health Check to download and install Vista SP2. You may need to run the Windows update utility several times before it displays the Vista SP2. Download and install Vista SP2 by following the onscreen instructions.

Installing a Microsoft hotfix

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this document. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
