Mac OS X v10.6: Installing and Using the Printer in Mac OS X v10.6

  • PrintPrint

Introduction

Mac OS X 10.6 includes the latest HP printer drivers, scan software, fax drivers (where applicable), and utility. You do not need to reinstall or download any HP software for full print, scan, fax, and utility functionality. The supported products are listed at the end of this document.
Hewlett Packard provides Mac OS X Snow Leopard compatible software from a few different sources. HP All-in-One software is included in the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard retail DVD, and also available via Apple Software Updates, and with new Mac computers shipping with Snow Leopard.
  1. Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard Retail DVD, and via Apple Software Updates - The latest HP printer drivers, scan ICA software (using Apple’s Image Capture), fax drivers (where applicable) and utility are included in Mac OS X 10.6. You do not need to reinstall or download any HP software for full print, scan, fax, and utility functionality. The supported products are listed at the end of this document.
  2. Download from HP - HP also provides a full Snow Leopard solution via download from www.hp.com/support and on the CD that ships with many products. Please look carefully at the CD label to see if it includes Mac OS X 10.6.
NOTE:Software obtained directly from HP for HP All-in-Ones includes the HP Scan application. This gets installed in Macintosh HD\Applications\Hewlett Packard . For scanning, one can use the HP Scan application or Apples Image Capture flow application.
Important: Please do not reinstall software from original HP Photosmart, Officejet, Deskjet CDs, or HP web downloads from previous Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, or 10.5. Older software is not compatible with Snow Leopard. The latest Snow Leopard compatible software is included in Mac OS X 10.6, and you will experience the best performance and functionality if you use the latest HP software.
There are some important updates with the HP software included in Mac OS X 10.6:
Full print functionality is supported with new HP print drivers included in Snow Leopard.
The Scanning interface is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application.
NOTE: HP Scan Pro software (from Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5) is not supported in Snow Leopard. The HP icon for HP Device Manager still in the dock after upgrade is not functional and should be removed.
NOTE:Scan support from pushing the Scan button on the printer is not supported with this version of the ICA scan interface built into Snow Leopard. Scan functionality is supported by scanning directly from the computer.
HP Utility is included in Snow Leopard.
HP Fax drivers are included in Snow Leopard for supported devices.
