Sound Problems After Installing a Service Pack (Windows Vista)

  • PrintPrint
This document applies to HP and Compaq desktop computers with Windows Vista.
After installing a Windows Vista service pack, sound is lost - either all sound or only the sound in a particular software program or feature, such as Media Center TV.
Restart the computer at least one time after installing a Windows Vista service pack to make sure that the service pack installation is complete. After the computer restarts, check whether you can hear sound.
If there is still no sound, try another sound device such as headphones or different speakers, verify that the default sound device is set correctly and that a sound driver is installed, reload the sound driver, and update the sound driver.
For more information, see the Microsoft support document: You experience problems with sound after you install a Windows Vista Service Pack (in English).
