Some software and drivers install only on 32-bit types of Windows. Some work only in 64-bit Windows. To download software and drivers from HP software download sites, you are required to select a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.
To find which type of Windows you have, use one of the sections below:

NOTE:If an HP software download page does not list 32-bit or 64-bit, the system type is 32-bit.
Find 32-bit or 64-bit system type in Windows 8
To find the Windows type, do the following:
- Move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner of the screen, right-click, and select File Explorer from the menu.The Computer window opens.
- Select the Computer tab, and then click Properties .
- Find "System Type" and note whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Find 32-bit or 64-bit system type in Windows 7 and Vista
To find the Windows type, do the following:

To find the Windows type, do the following:

- Select Properties .
- From the General tab, look at the Windows XP version name listed under System. If the version name contains the text "x64 Edition", your computer has a 64-bit version of Windows XP. If "x64 Edition" is not shown, your computer has a 32-bit version of Windows XP.
Find 32-bit or 64-bit system type if your computer does not start
If your computer does not start, you can find the 32-bit or 64-bit system type that your computer originally came with from the product packaging. You can also find the system type on the Web from a product specification document. For HP and Compaq PCs, use the following steps to find your support specification on the Web:

- In the Search field (or Questions or keywords field) at the top of this page, type your computer model number, a space, and the word "specification".For example, if you owned a TouchSmart 600-1055 computer, you would type: 600-1055 specification
- Click the link on the search results page that matches the Product Specifications for your computer model.A product specification support document opens.
- Scroll down to the software section to find the version of operating system and the system type.The type should be listed with name of the operating system; for example: Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit). If 32-bit or 64-bit is not listed next to the name of the operating system, the system type is 32-bit.
