Issue
After the product goes into sleep mode, it stops responding. Nothing happens when you press buttons or touch the touchscreen.
Solution one: Unplug the power cable and then plug it back in
Return the product to a responsive state by unplugging the power cable, and then plugging it back in.
- Unplug the power cable from the electrical outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds, and then plug the power cable back into the electrical outlet.
- If the product does not turn on automatically, press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
Solution two: Turn off Energy Save mode (A909n and A909g only)
If you use the HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) product, skip this solution
. See 'Solution three: Plug the product directly into a wall outlet.'
If you use the 8500 Premier (A909n) or 8500 Wireless (A909g), follow these steps to turn off the Energy Save mode.
- On the product control panel display, touch the Setup icon (
), and then touch Preferences
. - Touch Energy Save Mode , and then touch Off .
- If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution three: Plug the product directly into a wall outlet
Follow these steps to plug the product into a wall outlet, without using a power strip or surge protector.
- Disconnect the power cable from the back of the product.
- Unplug the power cable from any power strip, surge protector, or extension cord.
- Plug the power cable back into a wall electrical outlet.
- Reconnect the power cable to the back of the product.
- If the product does not turn on automatically, press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
- If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution four: Perform a power reset
Follow these steps to reset the product.
- Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product. - With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
- If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button (
) to turn it on.
- If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
- If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution five: Make sure that the product does not ground out
Follow these steps to make sure that the USB cable does not ground the product out.
- Press the Power button (
) to turn off the product. - Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the product.
- Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
- If the product turns on correctly , replace the USB cable with a new one.
- If the product does not turn on correctly , continue to the next solution.
Solution six: Service the product
If you have completed all the preceding steps and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.
