Managing Print Cartridges

  • PrintPrint

Introduction

This document contains information about managing print cartridges (supplies).

Continue feature

A 'Black cartridge low ' message displays on the computer when a print cartridge nears the end of its life. A 'Black very low ' message displays when the print cartridge is depleted. To make sure of optimal print quality, HP recommends replacing a print cartridge when the 'Black very low ' message displays. Print quality problems can occur when using a depleted print cartridge, resulting in wasted paper. Replacing a print cartridge when the 'Black very low ' message displays can prevent this waste.
The Continue feature allows the product to continue using a print cartridge that has reached the recommended replacement point.
NOTE:You must install the full-feature software to receive all supply-related messages promptly.
WARNING:Using Continue can result in unsatisfactory print quality. All print defects or supply failures incurred when an HP supply is used in Continue mode will not be considered to be defects in materials or workmanship in the supply under the HP Print Cartridge Warranty Statement. For warranty information, see the print cartridge limited warranty statement in this document.
You can start or stop the Continue feature at any time, and you do not have to restart it when you install a new print cartridge. When the At Very Low menu is set to Continue , the product automatically continues printing when a print cartridge reaches the recommended replacement level. A 'Black very low ' message appears while a print cartridge is being used in Continue mode. When you replace the print cartridge with a new one, the product deactivates Auto continue until another print cartridge reaches the recommended replacement level.
Follow these steps to enable or disable the Continue feature:
  1. On the product control panel, press the Setup button ( ).
  2. Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select the System Setup menu, and then press the OK button.
