Issue

During installation of the HP software, the following error message displays on the computer: 'Error 1311. Source file not found (cabinet). <FILE PATH AND NAME> verify that the file exists and that you can access it.'

Solution

First, choose your operating system.
Important : Follow these solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue.
Follow these steps to download the software from the HP Web site, and then install the software on your computer.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
  2. Turn the product on.
  3. Open a new window to browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
    Right-click this link, Get Software and Drivers , and then click Open in New Window .
  4. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
  5. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
  6. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click the driver that you want to download. If you need help deciding, see the information in the previous table.
  7. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  8. Click Download . This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.
  9. Click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
  10. Click Save . The software downloads to your computer.
    Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
  11. Browse to where you saved the file, and then double-click the file to start the installation.
  12. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Follow these steps to copy the CD files to the hard disk and install the software.

Step one: Delete all temporary files on the computer

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click Run , and then type %temp% in the Open box.
  2. Click Edit , and then click Select All .
  3. Under File and Folder Tasks , click Delete the selected items .
    CAUTION:An 'Access is denied ' error might occur. If so, click to close the error message, and then continue deleting the remaining files.

Step two: Copy the installation files to the hard disk

  1. Insert the software CD into the CD drive.
  2. Close any window that opens automatically after you insert the software CD.
  3. On the Windows taskbar, right-click Start , and then click Explore .
  4. In the left pane of the Windows Explorer window, find and select the CD drive that contains the software CD. The contents of the software CD appear in the right pane.
  5. Click Edit , and then click Select All .
  6. Click Edit , and then click Copy .
    CAUTION:Do not copy the contents of the software CD to the Windows Desktop.
  7. Click the C:\ hard disk in the left pane to view its contents in the right pane.
  8. Click File , point to New , and then click Folder .
  9. Name the folder hpdisk .
  10. Double-click the new hpdisk folder to open it, click Edit , and then click Paste . The contents of the software CD are copied to the folder. Leave Windows Explorer open when the copying process ends.

Step three: Delete all temporary files on the computer again

  1. Follow the procedure in Step one: Delete all temporary files on the computer.
  2. After deleting all the temporary files again, continue to Step four: Install the software from the hard disk.

Step four: Install the software from the hard disk

  1. Return to the hpdisk folder in Windows Explorer , and then double-click the Setup executable file. The software installation begins.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Follow these steps to change the RAM settings and install the software.

Step one: Change the RAM setting

  1. On the Windows taskbar click Start , and then click Run .
  2. In the Open box, type msconfig .
  3. Click OK . The System Configuration Utility opens.
  4. Click the BOOT.INI tab, and then click Advanced Options .
  5. In the BOOT.INI Advanced Options window, select the /MAXMEM= check box. The amount of RAM installed on the computer appears.
  6. Change the setting to 256 (or lower if the computer has less than 256 MB of RAM), and then click OK to close the window.
  7. Click Apply to save the changes, and then click Close to exit the System Configuration Utility .
  8. Click Restart when prompted to restart the computer.

Step two: Install the software

Choose one of these methods to install the software.
Follow these steps to download the software from the HP Web site, and then install the software on your computer.

Step three: Delete all temporary files on the computer again

  2. After deleting all the temporary files again, continue to Step four: Install the software from the hard disk.

  1. Return to the hpdisk folder in Windows Explorer , and then double-click the Setup executable file. The software installation begins.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

Step three: Remove the check from the /MAXMEM check box

  1. Repeat steps 1 through 4 in Step one: Change the RAM setting .
  2. Remove the check from the /MAXMEM check box.
Follow these steps to download the software from the HP Web site, and then install the software on your computer.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
  2. Turn the product on.
  3. Open a new window to browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
