Windows: How to Get HP Solution Center

What is HP Solution Center?

HP Solution Center is the main software program that you use to control and maintain your All-in-One printer. The program is part of the Full Feature software and driver package, and cannot be downloaded separately . HP Solution Center acts as a central point of access for tasks such as scanning, printing, and copying, and also provides access to the following features:
  • printer settings (such as scan and print settings)
  • printer help and troubleshooting
  • Links to shopping and supplies
  • Other HP software programs (such as photo-editing software)

When you perform a standard installation of the Full Feature HP software, HP Solution Center installs automatically. However, it does not install with a Basic driver installation or a plug-and-play installation. Also, you might have excluded the program if you performed a custom or minimum type of installation.
Check whether HP Solution Center displays in the list of installed programs:
  • Windows XP : Click Start , click All Programs , and then click the HP folder.
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7 : Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , and then click the HP folder.
  • Windows 8 : Right-click or tap and hold the lower left corner of the computer screen, and then click or tap Search , click or tap Apps , and then type Solution Center in the Search box.
  • If HP Solution Center displays in the list of HP programs, click it to open the program. If it opens successfully, you do not need to continue with the instructions in this document.
  • If HP Solution Center does not display in the list of programs, click your operating system, and then follow the steps to install the software.
Use one of the following options to install HP Solution Center.
It might be possible to add HP Solution Center from the printer CD. Use this option only if the following conditions are true:
  • You originally installed the software with the printer CD, not a download.
  • You omitted software component(s) during the installation.
  • You did not download more current software from the HP Web site after you first installed the printer.
If your situation meets these conditions, continue with the following steps to add the software from the printer CD:
  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Insert the printer CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.
    If the installer does not start automatically, click Start , click My Computer , and then double-click the CD drive.
  3. Click the option to install more software.
  4. Select the HP Solution Center component.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
HP offers the most current software available for your printer as a free download. HP Solution Center is part of the Full Feature Software and Drivers download package, and cannot be downloaded separately . Follow these steps to check whether this option is available for your printer, download it, and then reinstall the software and drivers.
  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Disconnect any USB cable from both the printer and the computer.
  3. Browse to the Get Software and Drivers page: Get Software and Drivers
  4. Check the instructions on the page, and then click the Plus sign (+) next to the correct heading for additional instructions:
  5. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click the Full Feature Software and Driver option.
    NOTE:A Full Feature driver is not available for some printers.
  6. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  7. Click Download .
  8. If the File Download Security Warning window displays, click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
  9. Click Save . The software downloads to your computer.
    Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
  10. When the download is complete and you are ready to install the files, click Open Folder , and then click the downloaded file. The file name ends in .exe .
    NOTE:If you closed the Download Complete window, browse to the folder where you saved the .exe file, and then click it.
  11. You can accept the default location to save the files. Click Next , and then wait while the installer extracts the files to prepare for installation.
  12. When the Install Wizard starts, follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
    Important : HP suggests that you select the Typical (Recommended) type of installation when the installer prompts you. This ensures that HP Solution Center installs. If you choose a Minimum type of installation, read the description of each software component carefully to avoid unintended loss of printer functionality.
Use one of the following options to install HP Solution Center.

  1. Click or tap the link to the HP Printer Install Wizard.
  2. Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements, and then click or tap Download .
  3. Click or tap Run in the Notification bar to download the software.
  4. Click or tap Yes in the User Account Control window. The wizard opens automatically.

Step one: Download the software from the HP website

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from both the printer and the computer (if you already connected it).
  2. Turn the printer on.
  3. Browse to the Get Software and Drivers page: Get Software and Drivers .
  4. Check the instructions on the page, and then click or tap the Plus sign ( ) next to the correct heading for additional instructions:
      If prompted to enter your printer in the window
      1. Type your printer model in the window.
      2. Click or tap Next . If necessary, select your model in a list of similar printers.
      3. Click or tap Software and Driver Downloads .
      4. Click or tap the drop-down arrow ( ), and then click or tap your operating system.
      5. Click or tap Next , and then continue to the next step
      If prompted to select your operating system
      1. Click or tap the drop-down arrow ( ), and then click or tap your operating system.
      2. Click or tap Next , and then continue to the next step.
  5. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click or tap the Full Feature Software and Driver option.
    NOTE:A Full Feature driver is not available for some printers.
  6. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click or tap View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  7. Click or tap Download .
  8. Click or tap Save in the Notification bar to download the software.
    NOTE:The software file automatically saves to the Downloads folder on your computer. If you want to install it at a later time, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap File Explorer , and then click or tap Downloads to access the file.

Step two: Install the software

  1. When the download completes, click or tap Run in the Notification bar.
    NOTE:If you closed the Notification bar after the download completed, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap File Explorer , and then click or tap Downloads . Find the name of the HP software file, and then double-click or double-tap the file.
  2. Click or tap Yes in the User Account Control window, and then wait while the installer extracts the files.
  3. When the Install Wizard starts, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
