Setting up the e-All-in-One (Hardware)

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer. If you already set up the product hardware, and need software installation help, see Links to Software Installation Instructions at the end of this document.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Unpack the product
  • Check the contents of the box
  • Install the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer)
  • Install the optional paper tray 2
  • Install the cartridges
  • Load tray 1
  • Load paper in optional tray 2
  • Connect the power to the product and wait for cartridge alignment
  • Set the date and time
  • Select the language/region
If you did not already set up the hardware, follow the steps in this document to do so first. But, if you already installed the hardware and are just looking for the driver to download, click this link HP Software and Driver Downloads . Setting up the product

Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the product software.
CAUTION:Do NOT connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the product to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during software installation.

Step one: Unpack the product

Follow these steps to unpack the product.
  1. Remove the product from the box.
  2. Remove all tape and packing materials from the outside of the product.

  3. Remove the sticker on the control panel display.
  4. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the product, and then pull to open the cartridge access door.

  5. Remove all tape and packing materials from inside the product.
  6. Close the cartridge access door.

Step two: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step three: Install the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer)

Follow these steps to install the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer).
  1. Find the duplexer in the box.
  2. Take the duplexer out of its packing material, and then remove any tape from the duplexer.
  3. Turn the product so the rear of it faces you.

  4. Hold the duplexer by its sides with the rollers toward the product, and then insert it into the slot in the rear of the product.
    NOTE:Look for the engraved arrows on the duplexer for help positioning it.

  5. Push the duplexer into the product until it snaps into place.

  6. Turn the product back around so the front faces you.

Step four: Install the optional tray 2

Follow these steps to install paper tray 2, which is an optional accessory. Skip this step if your model does not include a paper tray 2.
  1. Remove tray 2 from its box, remove its packing material, and then remove any tape from the tray.
  2. Place the tray on a flat, level surface where you intend to use the product.
  3. Lift the product, position it over the top of the paper tray, and then lower the product on top of the paper tray.
    CAUTION:Keep your fingers and hands clear of the bottom of the product.

  4. Make sure that the product is even with the left, right, and back edges of the tray.

Step five: Install the cartridges

Follow these steps to install the cartridges.
CAUTION:Failure to install the SETUP cartridges that came with the product causes a cartridge error.
  1. Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the product, and then pull to open the cartridge access door.

  2. Remove the new cartridges from their packaging.
    NOTE:After you remove a cartridge from its package, install it right away to avoid damaging the ink.
  3. Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the product, and then insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot.

  4. Press the cartridge forward into the slot until it snaps into place.

  5. Repeat these steps to install all the new cartridges.
  6. Close the cartridge access door.

Step six: Load paper into tray 1

  1. Pull the bottom of the paper tray toward you to open it.

  2. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions.

  3. Insert plain white paper in the tray. Make sure that the print side is face-down and the short edge is forward.
    CAUTION:Do not fill the paper above the red lines on the sides of the tray.

  4. If necessary, slide the paper width guides inward so they rest on the edges of the paper.
  5. Push the tray toward the product until it locks into place.

Step seven: Load paper in optional tray 2

Follow these steps to load paper in tray 2, which is an optional accessory. If your model does not include a tray 2, skip to the next step in this document.
  1. Grasp the underside of tray 2, and then pull the tray out.

  2. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions.
  3. Insert a stack of plain white paper in the center of the tray. Make sure that the print side is down.
    CAUTION:Do not fill the paper above the red lines on the gauges on the sides of the tray.
  4. Slide the paper guides inward so that they rest against the edges of the paper.

  5. Gently reinsert the tray into the product.
  6. Pull out the output tray extender, and then raise the catch at the end of it.

Step eight: Connect the power cord and wait for cartridge alignment

Follow these steps to connect the product to the power source, and then wait while the product aligns the cartridges.
  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  3. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  4. Wait for the product to align the cartridges. After the alignment is complete, the product prints an alignment page.

Step ten: Set the date and time

  1. On the control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( ), and then touch Setup ( ).
  2. Touch the Down Arrow ( ), and then touch Preferences .
  3. Touch Date and Time: , and then touch the Up and Down Arrows ( ) to set the month, day, and year.
  4. Touch Done , and then touch the Return Arrow ( ) to return to the Preferences menu.

Step eleven: Set the language and country/region

  1. In the Preferences menu, touch Language .
  2. Touch your preferred language, and then touch Yes to confirm your choice. The product returns to the Preferences menu.
  3. On the Preferences menu, touch Country/Region , and then touch your specific country/region.
  4. Touch Yes to confirm your choice, and then touch the Home icon ( ) to return to the main menu.

After you complete the previous setup steps, you can install the product software with the product CD or by downloading the software from the HP Web site. For instructions, click the link for your computer operating system and type of connection.
CAUTION:Do NOT connect a USB cable now. You will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during software installation.
