Alignment Page Does Not Print

Issue

After you install a new printhead, the product does not print an alignment page as expected.
Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

Solution one: Reset and align the All-in-One

Follow these steps to reset and align the product.

Step one: Reset the All-in-One

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

Step two: Load paper

Make sure that paper is loaded in the product. Choose from the following options to load paper in the product.
Click the plus sign () for more information.
Follow these steps to load paper in Tray 1.
  1. Grasp the handle on the front of the input tray, and then pull the tray towards you to open it.

  2. Slide the paper width guides out as far as possible.
  3. Remove all paper from the paper tray.
  4. Inspect and remove any foam or tape packaging materials in the paper tray.
  5. Insert a stack of unused, plain white paper (with the print-side down) in the center of the tray.

    CAUTION:Do not load any paper above the solid red lines on the sides of the tray. Do not use torn, wrinkled, perforated, wet, or folded paper. Make sure to remove all paper clips and staples before loading the paper.

  6. Slide the paper guides in so that they rest against the edges of the paper, and then insert the tray into the product and push it forward until it clicks into place.

  7. Pull out the tray extender on the output tray.

Follow these steps to load paper in Tray 2.
NOTE:Tray 2 might be an optional accessory for your product. If you do not have Tray 2 installed, continue to the next step.
  1. Grasp the underside of the tray, and then pull out the tray from the bottom of the product.

  2. Slide the paper width guides out as far as possible.
  3. Insert a stack of unused, plain white paper (print-side down) in the center of the tray. Make sure that the stack of paper aligns with the engraved lines in the tray.
    NOTE:Load Tray 2 with only U.S. Letter or A4 plain white paper.
  4. Slide the paper guides in so that they rest against the edges of the paper.
  5. Carefully reinsert the tray into the product, and then push the tray forward to close it.

  6. Pull out the tray extender on the output tray.

Step three: Align the All-in-One from the product control panel

Follow these steps to align the product from the product control panel.
  1. On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow ().
  2. Touch Setup ().
  3. Touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead. The product performs an alignment and prints an alignment page.
  4. Touch OK to return to the home screen.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Align the All-in-One using the HP software

Follow these steps to align the product using the product software.
  1. Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the tray.
  2. Open the HP product software:
      Click Start (), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().
      Click the Windows icon (), click Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().
      Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ().
    NOTE:You can also open the HP product software from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP product ().
  3. In the HP product software, double-click Printer Preferences (), and then double-click Maintenance Tasks (). The HP Toolbox opens.
  4. Click the Device Services tab, and then click the Align Printheads icon (). The product performs an alignment and prints an alignment page.
  5. After the alignment page prints, click OK, and then click Close to close the toolbox window.
