Apple Software Update is a quick and easy software download method available directly through the Mac OS operating system. Depending on the printer functionality, one or more of the following software components might be included in the HP driver update for Lion:
  • HP full-feature print driver
  • HP fax driver
  • HP Utility

If your printer supported Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, it should continue to support Lion. You must run Apple Software Update to make sure that you have the latest HP software installed.
If you attempt to install the HP software on Lion with the software CD that came with your printer, or with a previously downloaded driver, the message, 'Unsupported Operating System: This installer is not compatible...', might display.

If you receive the message during installation, do not worry. This is expected behavior. The message merely notifies you that you must obtain the HP software for Lion in another way.
To resolve the message, follow the instructions in this document to install the HP driver from Apple Software Update.
