Issue

When you scan or copy an original, the output is blank.

Solution

Click the Plus sign ( ) next to your issue for more information.
Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Step one: Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet

If your product is not plugged directly into a wall outlet, there might not be enough power reaching the product. Follow these steps to plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.
  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product.
  2. Unplug the power cord from any surge protector, extension cord, or power strip, and then plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.
  3. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  4. Try the scan again.
  • If the scan was successful , you can stop troubleshooting.
  • If the scan was not successful , continue to the next step.

Step two: Make a copy

Follow these steps to make a copy. These steps help you to find out if the issue is software or hardware related.
  1. Load plain white paper in the paper tray. Slide the paper in until it stops.
  2. Slide the paper width guide snugly against the paper.

  3. Lift the scanner lid.

  4. Place the document or picture on the scanner glass with the print side down, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass on the right-front corner.

  5. Close the scanner lid.

  6. Press either the Start Copy Black button ( ) or the Start Copy Color button ( ).
    • If the copy is blank , click the Plus sign ( ) next to Blank copy , and then follow the steps to troubleshoot possible hardware issues.
    • If the copy is not blank , follow relevant scanning software troubleshooting steps.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot hardware issues.

Step one: Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product.
  2. Unplug the power cord from any surge protector, extension cord, or power strip, and then plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet.
  3. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

Step two: Print a self-test report

  1. Press and hold the Start Copy Black button ( ) and the Start Copy Color button ( ) until the product makes some noise.
  2. Release both buttons. The self-test report prints.

Step three: Clean the cartridges

Click the plus sign () next to your operating system for more information.
  1. Open the HP product software:
      Click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).
      Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).
      Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , click the folder for your HP product, and then click the icon for your HP product ( ).
    NOTE:You can also open the HP product software from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP product ( ).
    The product software opens.
  2. Double-click Printer Actions ( ).
  3. Double-click Maintenance Tasks ( ). The HP Toolbox opens.
  4. Click Clean Ink Cartridges , and then follow the on-screen instructions to clean the cartridges.
  1. Make sure that the product is turned on and connected to the computer.
  2. On the computer, click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences .
  3. Click Print & Fax for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, or Print & Scan for OS X 10.7.
  4. In the left pane, click your product to highlight and select it.
  5. Click Options and Supplies , and then click the Utility tab.
  6. Click Open Printer Utility . The HP Utility opens.
  7. Click Clean Cartridges . The product cleans the cartridges.
    NOTE:Features and options might vary depending on your HP product model.
  8. Try the scan or copy again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , see the next step.

Step four: Clean the scanner glass and scanner backing

Before you begin, gather the following materials:
  • Several clean, soft, lint-free cloths
  • Mild glass cleaner
CAUTION:Use only glass cleaner to clean the scanner glass. Do not use cleaners that contain abrasives, acetone, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride. These substances can damage the product. Avoid isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) because it can leave streaks on the glass.
  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Lift the scanner lid.

  4. Spray a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with mild glass cleaner.
    CAUTION:Do not spray the glass cleaner directly on the glass to avoid damaging the scanner.
  5. Wipe the scanner glass and the white underside of the scanner lid with the dampened cloth.

  6. Dry the scanner glass thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth to prevent spotting, and then dry the white underside of the scanner lid.
    NOTE:Do not use paper-based wipes or tissues that can leave fiber residue.
  7. Close the scanner lid.

  8. Reconnect the power cord to the product, and then press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  9. Try the scan or copy again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , see the next step.

Step five: Service the All-in-One
