Before you begin
- You need a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Remove all CDs and DVDs from the optical drive.
- Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. Be sure to disconnect the network cable before disconnecting the power cord.
- Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
- Place the computer face-down on a soft flat surface. HP recommends that you place the computer on a blanket, towel, or other soft cloth to protect the touch screen surface from scratches or other damage.
- Do not remove a component from the protective packaging until you are ready to install it.

WARNING:Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.

CAUTION:This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the rear cover
Use the following steps to prepare the computer for a wall-mount installation.
| Step 1 Place the computer face down on a table with the stand overhanging the table edge and remove the back cover. For instructions, see the HP support document, Removing and Replacing the Rear Cover . | ![]() |
| Step 2 Remove the eight silver screws for the stand, four on each side of the stand. Each screw location is marked with the stencil of an arrow with no circles inside. | ![]() |
| Step 3 Slide the stand down slightly, and then pull it off the computer. | ![]() |
| Step 4 Find and pull out the two bezel inserts located between the speakers inside the computer. ![]() NOTE:The bezel inserts will fill in the gaps left in the outside bezel which were created by removing the stand. | ![]() |
| Step 5 The inserts are labeled 1 and 2 . | ![]() |
| Step 6 The inserts correspond to stencils on either side of the computer, 1 ... | ![]() |

| Step 7 On the bezel insert marked 1 , find the tab on the bottom. | ![]() |
| Step 8 In the area marked with the stenciled 1 , find the slot on the front bezel and the two tabs for the bezel insert. | ![]() |
| Step 9 To install bezel insert 1 , align the bottom tab into the slot. Slide the bezel insert down until the holes on the insert... | ![]() |

| Step 10 On the bezel insert marked 2 , find the tabs on both the top and the bottom. | ![]() |
| Step 11 In the area marked with the stenciled 2 , find the two slots on the front bezel and the two tabs for the bezel insert. | ![]() |
| Step 12 To install bezel insert 2 , align the top and bottom tabs into their slots. Slide the bezel insert down until the holes on the insert align over the tabs on the bezel. | ![]() |
| Step 13 Replace the rear cover. For instructions to replace the rear cover, see the HP support document, Removing and Replacing the Rear Cover . | ![]() |
| Step 14 Remove the VESA cover from the back of the rear cover if it was not removed when taking off the rear cover. | ![]() |
| The system is now ready to install a VESA wall mount according to the manufacturer’s instructions. | ![]() |
