An 'MSIExec command ...' Error Message Displays on the Computer During HP Software Installation in Windows

Issue

When you try to install the HP software, the computer displays the following error message:
Error . A problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system. Please restart your computer, and run this installer again. If the problem persists, please check the product support website for your product.
MSIExec command: /i "D:\\Setup\Core\SIPM_32\HpTcpMon.msi" /qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress
The error message might specify a different path, for example:
MSIExec command: /i "C:\\Setup\Core\SIPM_64\HpTcpMon.msi" /qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress

Cause

A software program might have disabled (and turned off) the print spooler, which manages print jobs.

Solution one: Restart the computer and install the software again

Restart the computer, and then try again to install the software.

Step one: Restart the computer

On the Windows taskbar, click Start ( ), and then click Shut Down ( ). From the What do you want the computer to do? drop-down list, click Restart , and then click OK .

Step two: Try again to install the software

Use one of the following methods to install the software.
If you have the HP software CD, you can use it for the installation. However, HP recommends that you download and install the software from the HP website. This software is the most current and contains updates that might not be on your software CD.
Follow these steps to install the software with the product CD.
  1. Remove the software CD from the CD drive of the computer.
  2. Insert the product CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.
    If the installation does not start, click Start , click My Computer , and then double-click the CD drive.
    NOTE:If the User Account Control screen opens, click Allow to continue.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Follow these steps to download and install the software from the HP website.
Step one: Download the software from the HP website
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
  2. Turn the product on.
  3. Browse to the Get Software and Drivers page: Get Software and Drivers
  4. Check the instructions on the page, and then click the Plus sign (+) next to the correct heading for additional instructions:
  5. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click the driver that you want to download.
  6. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  7. Click Download . This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.
  8. Click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
  9. Click Save . The software downloads to your computer.
    Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
Step two: Install the software
  1. When the download is complete and you are ready to install the files, click Open Folder , and then click the downloaded file. The file name ends in .exe .
    NOTE:If you closed the Download Complete screen, browse to the folder where you saved the .exe file, and then click it.
  2. You can accept the default location to save the files. Click Next , and then wait while the installer extracts the files to prepare for installation.
  3. When the Install Wizard starts, follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Change the Startup type in the Print Spooler Properties

Follow these steps to change the Startup type in the Print Spooler Properties window, restart the computer, and then try again to install the software.

Step one: Change the Startup type

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start ( ), and then click Control Panel .
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools .
  3. Double-click Services , and if prompted, click Continue .
  4. Double-click Print Spooler .
  5. In the Print Spooler Properties window, click the General tab.
  6. Click the drop-down list next to Startup type , and then click Automatic .
  7. Click Apply , and then click OK .

Step two: Restart the computer

On the Windows taskbar, click Start ( ), and then click Shut Down ( ). From the What do you want the computer to do? drop-down list, click Restart , and then click OK .

Step three: Try again to install the software

    NOTE:If you previously connected the USB cable, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap Control Panel , click or tap View devices and printers , and then delete any icons for your printer ( ) that might be listed.
  2. Turn the printer on.
  3. Insert the CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait for the software installer to start.
    NOTE:If the CD does not automatically start the installer, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap File Explorer , and then double-click or double-tap the CD or DVD drive.
  4. In the installation window, click Go Online or No thanks, I prefer the basic CD installation .
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    NOTE:During the installation, you might be prompted to set up the printer hardware. If you have already set up the printer hardware, you can click Next to bypass any hardware setup steps.

      If prompted to select your operating system
      1. Click or tap the drop-down arrow ( ), and then click or tap your operating system.
      2. Click or tap Next , and then continue to the next step.
  5. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click or tap the Full Feature Software and Driver option.
    NOTE:A Full Feature driver is not available for some printers.
  6. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click or tap View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  7. Click or tap Download .
  8. Click or tap Save in the Notification bar to download the software.
    NOTE:The software file automatically saves to the Downloads folder on your computer. If you want to install it at a later time, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap File Explorer , and then click or tap Downloads to access the file.
Step two: Install the software
  1. When the download completes, click or tap Run in the Notification bar.
    NOTE:If you closed the Notification bar after the download completed, right-click or tap and hold the bottom left corner of the screen, click or tap File Explorer , and then click or tap Downloads . Find the name of the HP software file, and then double-click or double-tap the file.
  2. Click or tap Yes in the User Account Control window, and then wait while the installer extracts the files.
  3. When the Install Wizard starts, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

    NOTE:A Full Feature driver is not available for some printers.
  6. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click or tap View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
  7. Click or tap Download .
  8. Click or tap Save in the Notification bar to download the software.
