How to Scan: From the Control Panel

Introduction

This document explains how to scan a picture or a document using the control panel on your HP product.
Before scanning, make sure that the computer is on, the printer software is installed, and the HP printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable or through a wireless network connection.
NOTE:Scan functions are supported only through a wireless network connection or a USB connection. Scan functions are not available through an Ethernet (wired) network connection.

Scanning a picture or document

Follow these steps to scan a picture or a document using the control panel on your HP printer.

Step one: Place the item on the scanner glass

Follow these steps to load the scanner.
  1. Turn the HP printer on.
  2. Lift the lid on the printer.

  3. Load the picture or document print side down on the right front corner of the glass.

  4. Close the lid.

Step two: Select the scan type from the touch screen

Use one of the following methods to scan an original from the control panel.
Follow these steps to scan from the HP printer to a computer.
  1. On the touch screen, touch the Right Arrow ( ), and then touch Scan ( ).
  2. Touch Computer to scan to the connected computer.
  3. Touch the name of the computer that you want to save the scan to.
  4. If you want to see a preview of the scanned document before the printer scans and saves it to the specified destination, touch the Touch here to preview button.
  5. If you want to change the options for your scan, touch Settings , and then touch the scan option that corresponds to the item that you are scanning.

    Document (PDF)Use this setting to scan text documents.
  6. Touch Scan . The printer scans the document or image, and then saves it to the destination specified in the settings.
Follow these steps to scan from the HP printer to a memory card.
CAUTION:To avoid damaging the files on the memory card, do not remove the memory card while the HP printer processes the files. You can safely remove a memory card only when the memory card light is not blinking.
  1. Insert a memory card.
    Turn the memory card so that the label faces to the right. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot on the front left side of the HP printer until it stops.

  2. On the touch screen, touch the Right Arrow ( ), and then touch Scan ( ).
  3. Touch Memory Card to scan to the connected memory card.
  4. If you want to see a preview of the scanned document before the printer scans and saves it to the specified destination, touch the Touch here to preview button.
  5. If you want to change the options for your scan, touch Settings .
    • Touch Scan Type to select the scan option that corresponds to the item that you are scanning.

    • Touch Resolution to change the quality of the scanned document.
  6. Touch Scan . The printer scans the document or image, and then saves it to the destination specified in the settings.
The printer allows you to scan photos or documents directly to email from the control panel. Before you can use this function, you need to enable Web Services and then register with HP ePrint.
IMPORTANT : Before you enable Web Services and HP ePrint, you must connect your printer to a wireless network with an active Internet connection.
Step one: Enable Web Services
Important : Web Services must be enabled on your HP printer in order to use ePrint services. If Web Services is disabled, ePrint functions will not work.
NOTE:If Web Services is already enabled on your printer, you can proceed to the next step in this document.
  1. On the printer control panel, touch the ePrint ( ) button.
  2. When prompted to enable Web services, touch Yes to accept the terms.
  3. If prompted, touch Yes to enable automatic updates. The printer will automatically check for any updates. If any updates are available, touch Yes to accept them. The printer will attempt to connect to the Web Services server.
  4. If the printer connects successfully to the Web Services server, a Web Services information page prints. The printed page contains the printer code that you will use to register your printer at HP Connected in the next step.
Step two: Sign up for ePrint
At HP Connected, you can manage your print jobs and change your ePrint settings. When you register at HP Connected, your printer's unique email address is provided to you. Follow these steps to register at HP Connected.
  1. Go to HP Connected , and then click Sign Up .
  2. Enter your information in the text fields, click the checkbox to accept the terms of use, and then click Create Account .
  3. On the Welcome to HP Connected window, click Continue .
  4. Click the Devices tab (if not already selected).
  5. Click Add a Device .
  6. Type the printer's claim code found on the Web Services confirmation page, and then click Add .
  7. Click OK . The You have successfully added your printer window opens.
    NOTE:HP sends an email to the account you used during the registration process. Open the email, click Confirm email address , and then sign in to HP Connected to complete the verification step.
  8. Continue to the next step to customize your printer's email address (optional).
Step three: Scan to an email account
  1. On the printer's control panel, touch the Right Arrow ( ), and then touch Scan ( ).
  2. Touch Email , and then touch Continue on the Scan to Email introduction screen.
  3. Touch to enter your email address as the sender, and then touch Continue .
    NOTE:Touch Remember me to allow the printer to save your email address so that next time the email address is displayed for you. Touch Privacy Details for more information on security.
  4. If you want to change the options for your scan, touch Settings .
    • Touch Scan Type to select the scan option that corresponds to the item that you are scanning.

    • Touch Resolution to change the quality of the scanned document.
  5. Touch to select your recipient's email address, and then touch Continue . If your recipient's email address is not in the list, touch Enter New Recipient .
  6. On the REVIEW INFO screen, confirm the information, and then touch Send . The printer scans the document or image, and then sends it to the destination specified in the settings.
