Changing Languages on Your HP Tablet (Android 4.1/Jelly Bean)

This document applies to HP tablets with Android 4.1/Jelly Bean operating system.
If the keys on your on-screen keyboard are not arranged as expected or do not display the correct characters or accents, the text input language might need to be changed. You can also change the display language setting so that the Android operating system displays notifications, menus, and other system text in your primary language.
This document provides information on how to change what language your tablet's operating system displays in, and how to change the on-screen keyboard layout for writing in a different language.

Changing the display language and input language

Use the steps in this section to change the display and input language settings on your tablet.
  1. On the Home screen, touch the All apps icon, and then touch the Settings icon.
  2. In the Personal section, touch Language & input .

  3. Touch Language , and then select your preferred language from the list. The Android operating system displays notifications, menus, and other system text in the language you select.

    NOTE:If your preferred language does not appear in the list, download the language from the Google Play Store (in English).
  4. If there are multiple input methods for your selected language, you can change the keyboard layout from the Language & input menu. in the Keyboard & input methods section, touch the current input method, and then select a different method.

Changing the display language when you cannot understand the current language

If your tablet was accidentally or intentionally set to a different language that you are unable to read, you can use icons to locate the language setting and change it back to a language you can read. Use the steps in this section to change languages using visual cues in place of words:
  1. On the Home screen, touch the All apps icon, and then touch the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down on the list and touch the icon.
  3. Touch the first selection at the top of the screen, below the Settings icon, to display a list of available languages.

  4. Select your preferred language from the list.
    NOTE:If your preferred language does not appear in the list, download the language from the Google Play Store (in English).
