Kits for Converting Internal Drives to External Devices are not Supported
Third-party conversion kits are available that will allow an internal IDE drives to be converted to an externally connected device. These conversion kits use an external shell, a separate power supply and may also change the interface connection between the drive and the computer. Conversion kits are not tested or supported for use with any HP drive.
Examples of third-party conversion kit configurations not supported:
- Internal IDE DVD Writer drive placed in an external shell with a separate power supply and connected to an IEEE-1394 (Firewire) port.
- Internal IDE DVD Writer drive placed in an external shell with a separate power supply and connected to an USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port.
Internal DVD Writer and CD-Writer drives are only supported using the default configuration for which they were designed as outlined in the product specifications.
